I've had my P5 for a little over a month now and now that I am out of school for the summer I can make a thread!

The P5 was not my first car. It was a "replacement"/upgrade from my former car, a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2. Green/No power options/auto. It got me from place to place and was great for high school. However, coming back from a concert on Feb. 20 I was railed in the back while sitting at a red light. I was hit by a mid 90s GMC Sierra driven by a drunk driver. She was cited at the scene with DWI, failure to reduce speed, and had her license taken on the spot. However, my car ended up looking like this:

This lead me to go car shopping. After getting the final dollar amount from her insurance I could really figure out what I wanted. I looked at a 2005 Mazda 6s, but the v6 was horribly weak and the trunk was filled with water. A 2005 Mazda 3. It wasn't the hatch. I liked the quickness, but it had a shimmy at 40-50 mph so I kept it in mind and moved on. I got to my P5 and it was beautiful! Spotless, ran perfectly, only 2 previous owners, and it was already tinted and tired with an amp. Although tinting and amp wiring aren't why I bought it, but it was something I didn't have to do myself down the line. Needless to say, I bought it and began learning 5-speed and joined Protege5.com!

I instantly removed the LeBra and gave her a quick rinse (North Carolina pollen is amazing...).

I spent a little extra money at this point to add the modest sub-woofer I always wanted in my ZX2 to my P5! I also added Sony Xplod rear door speakers.
PowerBass S-104DX Sub-woofer
PowerBass ASA 300.2x Amp
Sony Xplod XS-GT1327A

I let that break in for a couple days, but had to go back to school.

I next went on the mission for new tires and rims. The tires that came with the car were fairly worn and I wasn't going to put new rubber on stock rims. I managed to get a good deal on some ADR-14 Victory rims and tires. I have to replace one rim due to damage, but I was aware of that and I got a little bit of money off of the asking price. 3000 miles on the set! Still waiting for installation though.

I cashed in on the deal SickSpeed was having on their Supertone Blast Horns and bought and installed them!

The pollen finally decided to chill and I was able to get her washed and I took her for an undercarriage rinse as well.

I've started to black out my emblems, but poor weather has currently limited me to the front M.

I'll be doing the valence and rear emblems once the weather clears. Hopefully tomorrow!!!

I have plans on adding an ebay exhaust and probably replacing the front door speakers. Once those are finished future plans will be determined on my funds!

Looks pretty clean! Have you considered the JDM tails? They look great on red. Also, maybe some black housing headlights/retro would work well with the blacking of items.

I have those tails. You can see what they look like on my car search flickr for
My user name. Though my car isn't red.

It was going to cost the price of a new one to fix so I bought a new one. I'm waiting on it to arrive. Once it gets here I'll be off to get them all balanced and mounted. I'll see how I like the color on the vehicle, but I'll most likely black them out because of curb rash on the ones that aren't bent.

CR3- I completely got rid of mounting the amp there. My new amp is much smaller than the old one so I mounted it straight to the sub box. In terms of performance, I was thinking of a cold air intake and a short-shifter. These will, of course, depend on how my money looks.

swag- Thanks!

dat wiper... I want to do that mod, but I feel like getting the wiper is going to be the hardest part.

I was able to plasti-dip today! Some pics...

I recommend taking off the M and the MAZDA logos if you were to plasti-dip them. The Protege5 logo plasti-dipped easily while still on the car.

thats the great thing about plasti-dip though, you dont have to worry about over spray.
heck for my rear valance i used one line of 1in painters tape and thats it.
i just used a wet rag and wiped off all overspray

really? when i did my mirrors i had thought i had everything covered up but i found a trail of little black dots from over spray. i just used my nail to get them off and it only took me about 30 minutes, but on occasion ill find a lil one just floating around on my door.

Put tape in a rectangle around the numbers. It will cut itself around the edges. I just don't recommend taking off the Protege5 because it doesn't line up using holes (I don't think)
