Looking at buying a 2008 CX-9 GT, in a few days. Car has 73k miles (116k kms).

It is pre certified, but the only warranty they are offering is a 5 year industrial alliance warranty for 2500. I am taking the car tomorrow to a mechanic i trust to look the truck over. Now the only thing i saw visually was rusted brake calipers, but it isn't a deal breaker. I am a bit concerned about the wheel bearings and Transfer case issue this truck has. Is there anything i should tell my mechanic to really check hard besides the transfer case and wheel bearings? Is it worth taking the extended warranty considering the transfer case issues and the truck having high mileage. I know most times you don't come out ahead with them, but if the transfer case is at least 2k a pop. My other consideration is taking a Ford Premium care warranty for the same price, but without the hassle of a 3rd party. I would need the truck inspected at a Ford dealer though and that means i have to buy it first and they do a thorough checklist to make sure the truck is in good shape to qualify. The inspection is around 100-200 dollars pass or fail.

I would be paying around $15k plus tax for the truck. GT with Nav/Dvd player

Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike

You better make sure it is premium care and not extra care. Premium care is usually an extension of the new car bumper to bumper warranty for ford cars. I got that when i had purchased my windstar new. A friend of mine bought a used mercury sable years ago with low mileage and years and was only able to get extra care. Another person i know got a windstar when it was out of the new car warranty with 30k miles on it and he was only able to get extra care on it.
