Locking the hatch automatically

My wife locks the doors on her new iTouring hatch, but the hatch won't lock. Why?

Also, the sales guy told her that the remote has to be in the car or in close proximity to the car to be able to start it. Not so. She left her remote in the house the other day, thought it was in the car in our garage, started the car with no problem and drove to the gym a mile away (this is close proximity?), shut it off, but couldn't lock it without the remote. However, she was able to restart it without the remote anywhere near. What the hell?

I probably should eyeball the manual tonight. Unfortunately, I'm not nuts about her car, so haven't done so.

It sounds like the other key is in the car somewhere.

I haven't tried to start it without a key, but removing the key from the car sets off alarm bells. If a key is inside, and one outside, it beeps like five times warning you that a key is left inside, but still locks. Find both keys and go try it.

She found the other remote in the glovebox. No wonder it started. I thought she'd taken it out when she got the car.
