I currently have 16x8 fd rims from a rx7, they are great, but when i mount tires they flake off the paint and i jsut had to tocuh them up. I really like the tires and the look but i want something that wont need maintenance and has a better finish. I want 17's, what sizes would fit? 17x8? what offset? etc...

- also looking for something light, under under 20lbs closer to 15 preferably.

How much would you spend?
They make 17" enkei rpf1 , I think it's a 7.5 in a +48 offset.
Also, they have ultraleggera's in 17's, Ithink with an 8" width and a +48 offset.
Id try to stay around close to that... I wouldnt go much lower than a 48 offset. I'd actually try not to at all. I think both are close to 17 lbs, maybe a little lighter

Check out these on tirerack.

17x8 +50 This is the same size that I run on my car, just a different brand.

TRMotorsport MT1

Ignore the tire size that they recommend. A 235/45-17 works great on the MS3

I think those would look hot on the MS3.

I don't ever remember seeing them as available when I went to tire rack and did a search. They are the exact same size and offset as RX8 wheels (+50), but I guess they don't think 18x8 +50 is a good size to run on the MS3.

did you use a primer when you painted the wheels? What about powdercoating?

yes i used primer, i stripped the clear finish they had, primer, sanded, then did glossy black. i didnt clear coat so maybe thats y they **** up. if i dont find some nice wheels i like, i will probably redo the rims. a friend of mine works at acura and said that sometimes powder coat comes off when he mounts tires. is that supposed to happen? I would need them to sand blast the rims to remove all the s*** and powder them if i did that and ptu some sort of protective clear. i dont wanna pay for the job and have the same problem i have now.

ack...that's a real bummer to hear about...=/ i'm back on stock wheels for the summer, but i'll be back to the FD wheels after my stock potenzas are gone.

yea its kinda sucky but its not a big deal, honestly cant beeat the price and performance u get from these fds, i may jsut need to redo and take my time on the wheels, i did kinda hurry trying to get them on cuz i was so anxious.

They are for the RX-8

ya, i'm definitely going to be taking my time when i paint mine to gunmetal...=d i kinda wonder what i'm going to do about the edges of the rims, though, because that seems like it would be really tricky to paint properly even if i am careful...

Light thin coats with plenty of dry time between each coat. That is what I did when I painted a set of wheels for my 1st Jetta. I never had a problem with chipping or scuffing due to changing the tires.
