Leaking Oil Cap

Greetings:

Kinda new to the board

Situation: Got a leaking oil filler cap. Oil leaks out a little bit. Gasket is fine, oil level fine-just drop by drop leaks out. I think this is bruning off the hot engine block as I smell bur oil from time to time.

Recent events: Had a horrible idle/stalling situation. Took out and cleaned the EGR and IAC valves. Runs perfect right now--idles at 500-600 no suttering quite as a mouse and smooth. The leak was occuring a bit before the idle issues now I think it might be a little worse.

Any ideas? thanks

small amendment to problem

I took off the plastic oil cap and noticed that there is no rubber o-ring gasket....should this be?
Right now I have a plastic cap on a metal neck and that's it. Or, something else is going on to build pressue in my engine and push the oil out through the cap. Temps normal/no engine lights.

It should have a rubber gasket. No worries though, hop on ebay, get an aftermarkert one cheap. I have the mazdaspeed one, and it does not leak at all. just peel off the sticker, it will look cleaner.

It should have a rubber gasket. No worries though, hop on ebay, get an aftermarkert one cheap. I have the mazdaspeed one, and it does not leak at all. just peel off the sticker, it will look cleaner.

UPDATE: I went to the hardware store and got a flat rubber washer for $.68--trimmed it to fit the cap and it is no longer leaking. I saw a little smoke after takingit out for about 20 minutes--I think it is burning the oil that had leaked from the cap and spilled on the side of the engine. IT WAS NOT BURNING FROM THE FILLER CAP. if it gets worse (the burning smell) I will take it to a dealer.

Fine, to correct myself, I have a knock-off ebay fake mazdaspeed one. There, I said it. having taken off the decal, I guess I just have an aluminum one.

Good to hear about your gasket, no oil leaking is good.

i have the same oil cap .... cept blue.... mine has faded due to the heat of the motor..more of a light purple now...
