Lack of acceleration.

Mazda 6 TS2 Diesel Hatchback
Hi all,

New to the forums & I've just purchased a 53 plate Mazda 6 TS2 Diesel.

First of all, this is my first diesel, so I'm getting used to moving through the gears differently from a petrol car.

One thing I have noticed on my Mazda is that, for example: when I come around a round about (in 2nd gear) and enter an immediate hill, the car struggles like mad to get up the hill. I'm not talking a really steep hill or anything, the hill is quite small to be honest, about 60m's long & suppose it gradually raises approx. the height of half a house (if that makes sense)... Is this normal? As I said I'm only used to driving petrol cars (ford fiesta 2001) & I had no problem climbing any hill in 2nd gear, even 3rd gear sometimes...

Not sure if this is related in any way, but when I change into 2nd gear (from 1st) at anything over 2000 rev's the car kinda shunts as if I'm taking my foot off the clutch too quick, or accelerating when foot still on the clutch...

Few minor problems I'm experiencing at the moment. Hope someone can help.

Many thanks.

Ryan

I don't know much about diesel cars, but I don't understand why it would struggle going up hill. I'd take it to a shop for a tuneup, change/check the plugs, maybe check the wiring, oil/fuel/air filters.

Well if it was a cummins or a cat diesel then I could help but im useless now

Lol. Plugs don't exist, only injectors and glow plugs. But glow plugs are only used for starting.

Beat me to it zinger.

How many miles (km?) on the car? Any recent maintenance done? I'd say have a compression check done immediately though.

Hey.

I've changed the fuel filter...
I've drained all the oil from the engine, flushed it & replaced with recommeneded Mazda oil (not that I think has anything to do with the problem)...
I've replaced the air filter...
I've replaced the pollen filter...

Seperate issue found... SCV needed changing. Car kept dying on me at round abouts/junctions. Real trouble holding idle speed when started from cold. Bought a new SCV from TT Automotive, replaced it last night, car fired up perfect, seemed to be running smoother this morning as well.

So back to the lack of acceleration issue..

As above, I've serviced the car as best I know how too, but its still really sluggish in 2nd gear when going up a hill. Its going into the garage this morning for new front/back breaks to be fitted, so I've asked them to have a look at this issue as well.

Would any standard garage have the tools/knowledge on how to do a compression check?

Thanks for listening

More than likely its going to be a bad injector or possible a bad harness under the valve cover that plugs into the injector, diesels and injectors do not get along very well for some reason alot of it is because of the ultra low sulfur in diesel fuel hey you can always run red dyed diesel and it will run a hell of a lot better BUT thats if the injector(s) havent failed
