2013~2016: Knock noise from CX-5 front

CombatSailor

2015 Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5, 150k miles
I have a knock from what seems to be the front drivers side at slow speeds when going over bumps. It's sporadic. I replaced the control arms that included ball joints and bushings. Also replaced the front struts. No movement to the steering wheel or vibration just the noise. Tires are wearing even. It's been to two mechanics that haven't been able to track down the issue. Any ideas?

Bushings and ball joints came with the replaced control arms.

I should update my profile. The car now has 150k on it

Motor mounts, tranny mounts, sway bar, calipers, bolts ??? Did they check everything? You sure there nothing inside the car under the seat, loose tools, etc.? Are the calipers and brackets bolted tight?

Engine mount on passenger side is good. I've been debating between a tranny mount or wheel bearing. But neither has any symptom beyond the noise. The noise is definitely from outside the car.

My 2014 just turned 60K miles. A few months ago I changed my sway bar end links. I had one bad one that would knock over the slightest bump. Found it by grabbing and shaking it .The ball stud was loose and moved in and out of the socket. Didn't feel any vertical play. Boots were torn on both. That's one thing to check for sure.

My 2016 has 72K miles and i'm hearing/feeling a knocking in the front end as well. Only happens when i make left turns at slow speeds and especially noticeable when hitting bumps at the same time. Doesn't happen all the time but often enough. Brought it to a shop today, looked under the car, checked bushings, control arms, axle, ball joints, shocks and struts. he said everything looks tight and fantastic. He test drove it. Didn't hear the knocking and put it on the lift again to double check. Didn't find anything. This forum proves i'm not going crazy. I will check what Jmaz said though.

Came here looking for same thing. I can hear the knock on drivers side at the least. Removed wheel and everything feels tight, some rubber bushings are dry cracked or torn though. Made sure all under plastic pieces were secure and can't find anything in the engine bay that could be it.
Happens driving down the road even on the smallest bumps. If I aggressively steer left/right I can hear it. Shock seems ok, pushing up/down on fender barely moves it.
I have a 2015 GT with 125k ish miles.

Anyone had this and found the fix yet? Where did you get the parts needed if so
Thanks

Edit: Might need the protector on the coil spring I have seen from another thread.

I just had both my left and right LCAs replaced with aftermarket brand, now i'm hearing a knocking when accelerating from a stop initially. If I go slow it's usually ok, but if I accelerate a little faster, it knocks. I have a 2016 with 101K. Mechanic looked at it and replaced one of them and still knocking. Anyone have a fix?

I ordered the spring protectors and while waiting on them decided to go ahead and remove a strut to be familiar. Those springs are so compressed and needing a tool to remove them, I don't see how those could be making any sort of knocking noise. Mine does it when going really slow and turning the wheel abruptly either way. Hitting small bumps %95 of the time makes the knocking noise.
But everything seems tight when I took stuff off. I know the car can put a lot more pressure and weight changes than I can create but I couldn't make anything wiggle when I had the strut out.

I guess I 'm about at the point to drop it off at a dealer and just say fix it. Afraid of the possibly cost :(

I’ve got the same issue on my ‘18, took the wheel off to replace pads/rotors and nothing seems out of the ordinary. Sounds like metal on metal knocking/clunking when going over bumps on front left wheel. I can’t belive so many people have this same issue but no clear fix.

I'm going to try the left lower control arm 1st. I'll report back on it, hopefully get that done in a couple weeks.

I believe you guys should check the front stabilizer bar / anti-sway bar links mentioned earlier in post #6 by @jmaz which is a very common problem making noises in addition to LCA bushings and ball joints.

Wasn't my lower left control arm. Heard the same sounds right away on a test drive.

Had the car on a lift. Put it in drive and watched the motor as engine revved, put in gear and let brake on/off and doesn't seem to be motor mounts. Turned wheels back and forth a lot, putting pressure on them etc and doesn't seem to be anything we can reproduce that way.

If I haven't mentioned seems to only happen at low speeds or just can't hear it after a certain speeds.
I can reproduce it with jerking the steering left/right real quick at low speeds.

Hard to think with how the coils are compressed that it could be them clanking or making a thud type sound. Anyway I picked up some coil protectors but will be 6-8 weeks before I can get them put on.

Anyone figure this out? I've been searching on the Internet for some information that I haven't thought of.

I've replaced ball joint, sway bar bushings and links (Moog, but I don't even trust those as the grease is just coming out and not staying in) inner and outer tie rod ends (Moog) and struts from Monroe.

I've replaced the struts twice (warranty). And there is still noise. Everything is tight as I checked multiple times. All my motor mounts are also replaced too. I can't not figure this out and it's driving me crazy.

If you look closely you can see the top hat rubbing against the bare metal chassis.

Have heard nothing but bad things about the Monroe quick struts.

I opted to just go with OE Mazda struts for mine. Still waiting for them to arrive.

Were the strut mounts replaced when the struts were replaced. Although I wouldn't go back to Monroe, I've had their Quikstruts twice on prior cars and their included strut mounts never made noise.

Yes it's the quick struts. Both times (rock auto). They come as one piece. But yes.
I'm just running out of options. Everything that connects to each other, is tight.

Top 3 bolts to strut tight.
Below that, the 2 lower bolts to strut.
The sway bar links, and bushings.
The inner and outer tie rods.
Then the ball joints.
Even brand new tires from Sam's.
And the knock is still there.

Sorry forgot to post.
