Not a critical issue by any means but I'm left a bit surprised. For quite a long time now I've had to press the key fob buttons hard and sometimes repeatedly to activate the doors and trunk lid. Today I finally got around to getting a new battery in the fob and low and behold light (normal ) pressure now activates doors and trunk lid. Why would an aging key fob battery require more pressure on its buttons?

It shouldn't but maybe by pressing harder you just moved fob a bit higher or a different angle that was enough to send better signal.

By pressing multiple times, one of them worked for you.
Not likely due to how hard you pressed the button.
Just a guess.

Thank you both. Odd but now normal pressure works.

Another guess. The PC board might have been a bit misaligned in the case so the buttons weren't sitting right on the tabs that push on them when you press the button. When you popped the case to replace the battery the board might have reseated to where it should be so the problem went away.

back in the days with aftermarket alarms the lower the battery the shorter the distance to unlock. Same with garage openers.
Likely same is valid here.

This ^^^^^^^^

I'll bet that as you're pressing the fob button, you're walking closer and closer to the car, right?
