K&N Filters... how much?

probably 1 or 2 hp.....if nothing else, the engine will breathe a lot easier and the filter will outlast anything you will ever get for the car....they are more than worth the $35 or so they cost.

Someone needs to do a dyno run with one...and I assume if you had more mods then you would benefit from a K&N even more.

You might get 1..maybe 2 whp on a stock setup.

i got mine for $40
and it sounds so awesome...
deep and throaty, not like honda..i guess thats what to expect from low compression 2.0 liter =)

Thanks all!

Well... it seems that will be my first upgrade. Although I'm a bit dissapointed it'll only gain me 1 or 2 horsies... I thought it would have been more like 10

I won't pretend... this is a new hobby for me. So I'm a bit green compated to virtually all of you who have made mods on your cars.

don't sweat it eeveyl....its why we have forums...for all to learn...

NOW, let me tell you...if those things added 10 hp...they would be flying off the shelves like they had wings!! lol

a complete intake may only get you 5.....so just a drop in filter will certainly gain you less. they are good filters though.

Here's a link to a thread were someone actually dyno'ed a Stock P5 with a drop in K&N... The results are about half way down the page.

http://www.protege5.com/vbb225/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1847&highlight=dyno

Heres the aforementioned section, if you don't feel like looking:

Heads up: the stock Protege5 put in a replacement K&N filter (yes, only the flat one!) and ran 105 hp...3 hp gain for a teeny mod like that! Now that's a cheap but effective mod! Hehe I paid almost $300 USD more than him, and got only 1-2 hp more out of my CAI...but then I am paying for both the looks and the intake roar too...

I just got an amsoil air filter, and it feels like it made more of a difference than my K&N. More throttle response at high RPM's.
