i want to put a K&N air filter on my speed3 but when i searched the website to see what the number for the part was it only had the regular 3 as choices. it listed the 2.0 and the 2.3 liter engines but said nothing of the speed3 or the turboed engine. is the filter for the 2.3L the same as for the speed3?

i forgot to mention, i checked under CX-7 and it didn't have the part. it said no products found. since the CX-7 uses the same engine as the speed3 is it safe to say that the filter for the regular 3 would not work?

dunno what to tell you what does your air box look like? theres tons of pictures on here of the reg 3 airbox if yours looks like it then it may work... i would hold out for a cai personally

try this.

i was checking on a cai and found this. i havent looked at my filter so cant confirm this is the correct one but the site has it under speed3.

like the other guy said, you may want to wait for the cai but everyone is different.

The filter is the same size as the one in the regular 3.. 2.3 2.0 might be the same.
#2293 I think. I have it in my MZsp3 and fits perfect. Gutted airbox is just like a SRI with a heat sheild..Sounds good to.Turbo and BOV very audible.

I really dont know if i would put a K&N in. On a turbo car the air box doesnt hurt anything all that much anyways. If anything wait for the CAI!

well one of the reasons im thinkin air filter is i dont know if i want to spend 800 bucks on a mazdaspeed CAI and i'd rather keep everything under warranty until it runs out. i've had enough trouble with cars in the past ....

What a lot of people end up doing is just swapping out their CAI for the factory airbox when they go in for service work. If you're competent with hand tools, the whole process shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes once you're familiar with the installation. Or you could just leave it on and hope the dealership doesn't pay it any attention. That's what I did when I took my MSP in for a coolant leak...

Mazda: We found your coolant leak Chris.
Me: Awesome, what ended up being the problem?
Mazda: Well, the good news is your intake had nothing to do with it.

Yeah. Why WOULD it have anything to do with it? Just making sure I knew they knew it was there I guess. I'd almost guarantee they put it in the service docs that the aftermarket intake didn't cause the problem too, haha.

At any rate, good luck in your decision. I had a K&N and a CAI on my MSP, and there was no comparison. The size and routing of the intake plumbing is much more constrictive than the filter itself. I personally am foaming at the mouth for AEM to throw us a bone (glare)

Being new to the Mazda, does AEM make all of the Mazdaspeed parts? I seem to hear that repeated throughout the forums... or at least the CAI.

My understanding is that, like you say, they make the CAIs for Mazdaspeed, but honestly I'm just waiting for the AEM brand version to come out. No way I'm shelling out over $800 for a filter on a stick.
