just mufflers

i have read alot of different opinions about the stock exhaust and have came to the conclusion that all i want is sound difference, stock pipe size is fine so why can i not just buy mufflers it seems like. Cpe, cobb, etc who makes exhaust dont just sell mufflers. I just welded mufflers into my gto and was what i wanted and was happy. Why not for this car? What size would i need if i found one?

How 'bout removing a resonater or two?

do what he says. It's much cheaper to go this route and you will enjoy it.

I took off the muffler and back resonator and it was nice. Then wanted louder so I took off the first resonator and it was pretty bitchin. Then added the testpipe which removed the 2nd cat and it growls like a mofo :)

they blocked youtube from my work or I'd post the video links to how each sounds so you can compare the sounds and see which you like.

cutting out resonators and putting in straight pipe at the muffler shop is relatively cheap, should be $20-30 each for removal and they'll just weld in a straight piece of pipe

i will also agree that just removing a resonator or two will accomplish what you are looking for. I took removed my resonator closest to the "muffler" and was happy with that. it made it somewhat deeper and a hair louder without being annoying.

Took both of my resonators off a few months ago and its prefect. Loud without being too loud and sounds clean. Can't wait for my tp to give more of a deeper tone. But it sounds best with a dp. The exhaust gets that deep thunderous boom sound you can feel in your chest...its just beautiful

Soon as I no longer care about my warranty-for sound plus power a new dp is. First to come.

But if you want your exhaust even louder, cut out both resonators and get an apexi universal muffler. Apexis cans are LOUD

So you guys are all o.k. with the 2500 rpm drone? That's what the reso are there to tame. Muffler=volume. Resos=no drone. Go to full DP/RP catless and I'm betting you'll want those resos back after a few days/weeks of driving. DP/RP=really loud.

You are on to one thing, for sure. There is no power gain to going with an expensive cat back system, even with full DP/RP and no cats, unless you upgrade to a larger turbo. So changing to a different muffler (so long as it is a straight through design) to get the sound you want makes a lot of sense.

But the resos? I couldn't get rid of the headache from the DP/RP until I actually added a third reso (yes, you heard right) by welding it into the middle of the RP.

i had both my resonators removed last week and im loving it. Right around 2700- 2500 rpm range vibrates my door panels inside when de-accelerating....lol. I dont mind it though. I have it paired with an SU test pipe and the car is sounding kinda beastly now. good luck on what ever you choose though.

yeah. i dont get any ddrone in the 2500rpm range. i get bass at times.

cant wait to get my TP

keep the stock cbe and get a DP/rp AND IT WILL SOUND AMAZING. Not loud at idle or cruise but once you get into boost the thing sounds mean as all hell and wakes the neighbors up right away. Sounds mean on cold starts as well

That's not a bad idea, right now I was thinking about getting a cbe, but hell I'll just save me the money and delete the res. and buy a turbosmart bov. My SU test pipe didn't really make my exhaust louder in my opinion so now I want something that will give me alittle bit more noise. Hopefully this weekend I could do this

at high cruise its the same with two gone. its pretty tame when you get up to cruising speed.

i always try to slow down just so i can accel to make the exhaust get loud. or ill just ride next to another car with them on my drive side so i can hear my exhaust bounce off of their car.

just want my tp now, as if i havent said that a million times ha

One of the video clips says they removed 3 res. I thought there were only two? Removing the res. doesn't make the car sound ricey or coffee can loud does it?
