Just installed E4P STS, have questions

As the title says, I installed the above STS and wasn't sure where to put the bushings/washers that came with it?? Had a mechanic friend help out and even he couldn't figure it out (He's a Ford mechanic and is very knowledgeable). Does anyone have pics or could tell me where and how many washers or busings to install??

BTW, just installed the short throw and the TRZ Tranny and Motor Mounts and the car feels like it's on steroids!!

there are four bushings... i'd be a bit skeptical if your ford mechanic couldn't visually see the four washer/bolts that hold down the entire shifter assembly. there are four bolts that come out, four metal bushings, and four rubber grommets that are squeezed in there (they need to be pried out with a little bit of force from up top and a lot of puling from below). then you place the thicker metal bushings underneath the shifter assembly with the little nipple facing up and then line up your stock shifter assembly on top of the new bushings and then place one washer in each and re-use the stock bolts and bolt it back up.

donezo

Thanks for the response. Excuse my ignorance but what are the benefits of the bushings and washers? I did not install them with the E4P shifter. What am I missing without the bushings?

Just about 90% of the precision of the shifter. You will miss shifts under high load if you didn't install them. get back in there and put them in as designed. You don't need to be a rocket scientist. Pull the shift knob, start lifting up the console just inside the between seat storage (it'll pop up and off) then remove the shift boot plate the same way, undo the four bolts holding the shifter down with a 10mm 1/4 inch drive socket, put the bushings in as described and button everything back up. Should take 1/2 hour, at the most.

Job done, piece of cake however I din't mess with the fourth bolt upper front left, to cramped and didn't feel like taking everything apart. I assume the rubber grommets and oem metal bushings are not to be reused?

Yes.

Fourth bolt is easily done this way: bend a bit of coat hanger into a tiny hook and yank the rubber bushing up and out. Slide the washer in place and hold it aligned with the straight end of the wire, then drop the top washer over the wire. Then remove the wire and install the bolt using a 1/4" drive ratchet and 10mm socket. Doable even without a 1/4 inch swivel extension, with no removal of main console bits.

Great tip Darth! However with 3 of the 4 already done, is there really a need to do the fourth? Most people are satisfied with just the two rear bolts.

orly?
which people have you spoken to that only installed the rear two?
that's just silly.
detach the shifter cable and that 4th bushing is highly accessible.

There's 4 bushings for a reason... why do only 75% of the job??? (shrug) It's like buying 4 shocks and only installing 3 of them. (silly)
