06 Mazdaspeed6 GT
Hey everybody,
i just bought myself an 06 mazdaspeed6 grand touring edition, silver with back leather, after picking it up from the auction i quickly realized both of the front bearing are wayy past due the wheels were shaking it was so bad they are already on order ( ball bearings ) anyways the real question ihve got is with the code that came up from my check engine light, P2187? ive been reading up it could be a pump hose or something? the idle is a tiny bit rough, but the cars performance hasnt been comprimised at all i dont think.
im a little bit puzzled by this issue, any help would be great, Oh an is this covered under power train warranty? (the check engine light is taht covered by warraanty its an 06 with 78000kms. purchased in july 06)

thanks for the help,

atott!(gah)

That code along with the idle is most likely a vacuum leak. If your still under warranty you would be covered granted the dealership won't void it due to the cat-back on the car (iirc you said you had a cat-back in your other post). Any other mods currently on it?

yup its a purge valve solenoid code..

the valve is either opening and staying open or its getting stuck closed..

the code could be a result of having a VCTS Delete previously on the car, when the last owner reinstalled the VCTS system it was incorrectly installed.

its nothing major to be worried about, the rough idle at startup has me thinking its the VCTS solenoid.

you should be covered under warrenty from where you bought it for atleast 90 days.. take it back to them and tell them about the code..

Ah great thanks for the info, it had me worried when i brought it home last night only to see the check engine light pop up!! i cant really bring it back its from my brother in law, we picked it up at the dealer auction so i dont hold him responsible i was bidding on the car, wholesale dealer auctions dont guaruntee there cars once you leave the parking lot pretty much!, i called mazda yesterday, apperantly i only have power train warranty left, 5 yrs 100klicks, would htis check engine light be under powertrain you think?
thanks,
oh ya, mods to come,
lowering springs,
Fujita Cold air intake
Blow off Valve
Sprint booster Chip DBW
Turbo Downpipe$
badgeless front grill.

Purge valve is an emissions part I think, and that should still be covered under the emissions warranty (as I recall, that is longer than the power train warranty).

Emissions warranty only covers the ECU (engine computer) and the Cats.....

I just plugged my scanner again to check if the code would come up the same, i erased the code last night after i scanned it, now it is reading a completely different code P0300, last night it read P2187 the new code reads multiple cylinder misfire???? im confused why would it read a different code today?

i tried to check my plugs but i didnt have th right tools with me to get to them, the car is going in on monday to haveboth front bearings changed, ill have them check out the plugs and the vacuum hose at the same time! im getting pretty worried that i may have picked up a lemon... more headaches to come(blowup)

I would also check your compression. You can do it yourself or have the dealer do it but they will probably overcharge you. There are vids on youtube showing you how to do it. Basically it checks the pressure in each cylinder. If you have low pressure in one it could mean gasket problems or piston problems among others. If you do it yourself all you need is the spark plug tool and the pressure gauge which is like 25 bucks. Good time to do it when your checking your plugs. Good to be on the safe side. Worst case you open your block and put new internals in there. But a whole lot better than buying a new block.

ya forsure! definately dont want to be buying a new block i just got finished with a 04 s4 4.2l v8, i had to have the mototr swapped, cost me 6 grand which is cheap for that kind of overhaul on that car. my car is still under powertrain warranty so if it is the block or the compression its covered by mazda!
