J-Spec intake from Corksport

Does anybody know if any of the products from Corksport made by J-Spec any good. Like to know because I'm considering the intake manifold, and a couple other things from them and Mazdaspeed to put on my MP3. If anybody knows let me know. Thanks

You talking about J-SPEC stuff.....?? GOTTA BE GOOD !!! haha...everything from Japan is good stuff.......
O well....just my opinion.....hehe:D

I have the J-spec manifold sitting in my Garage from my FS-ZE swap on my MP3. From what my mechanic, and Derick at Corksport tells me, the intake on the MP3 is about the same as far as performance-wise. There is a black box on top of the J-spec that is supposed to give better throttle response, but I don't know. The other drawback to installing the J-Spec is the wiring. No one has figured out how to control the VICS on the J-Spec manifold without getting the J-Spec ECU, and rewiring for OBDI.

rule of thumb for cars is...anything from japan is gonna be better then the US gets...however...like linuxracer said...there can be compatability problems...just make sure that everything will work...ask lots of questions

The VICS on teh FS-ZE manifold should be the same vacuum actuator that ours is. Just hook it up to the solenoid that your current VICS is connected to.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Would it be better to just buy the complete engine from Corksport that has 170 h.p . By the way how is that engine different than ours. If it's the same engine how does it have 170hp and we only have 145hp. Is it because it has some after-market parts on it or is just because it is a larger displacement engine with high compression pistons? If any body knows about that engine please give me some info. I saw this and am very seriously considering buying that motor and sticking it in mine after warrenty is up. Fed up with this 145hp crap. Time to build some serious horsepower :D

well...first of all try doing a search...so many people have approached this question before there's tons of information out there...

as far as the engine goes...it's pretty much drop in...however there is a big problem...you have to get a jdm ecu...ours won't work with the engine...somebody put an FZ in to a mp3 and it dynoed at around 147 to the wheels...good luck though whatever you do

Hope somebody can help me on this. If I was to buy the 170h.p motor from Corksport and bore it out, port and polish, and extruned hone it, and do a 5 angle valve job, 9:1 compession, flat top pistons, lightweight crank, aftermarket cams, u know the whole works including a stand alone fuel management system how much h.p do u think this motor will yeild then just n/a. I'm guessing close to 200h.p if so I think I would rather go with it rather than the Duratech simply because it is a diect bolt in no mods necessary anybody?

The FS-ZE comes with 10.5:1 (something like that) pistons...Why on earth would you take those out to put in the stock FS-DE compression rate pistons (9.1:1)??

If you want to do all that work to the motor, you might as well do it to your stock motor. It'll be cheaper. The reason the FS-ZE makes more power than the FS-DE is because of the higher compression ratio.

The FS-ZE is just about on the top level of N/A for the FS series motor.

Nope, our's will work with the engine. The Japanese ECU won't work with our wiring harness. You can buy the notor but you are not going to see 170hp out of it until you find out some way to make the Jspec ECU work. You can go with a stand alone but by the time you've spent all that money, you could have bought a turbo kit.

The hard part is getting the J-Spec ECU to work. The FS-ZE motor runs on OBD I, and as we all know, the FS-DE is OBD II...

So you can make the conversion, but it probably won't pass emmisions. It will probably pass the sniffer test, but when the testers find out that you switched an OBD II car back to an OBD I, they won't pass it.

Of course that only applies to cars that are required to have said emmissions test. Florida residents need not worry.

Of course each state has different emmisions standards, so you should check with your local Air Board.

One thing that I don't see being mentioned about the FS-ZE motor is that the 170HP rating is the Japanese HP rating. The Japanese and North American market HP ratings are calculated differently. The FS-ZE would actually be putting out approx 160 HP the way we rate it in North America. Rather than spend all the money on an FS-ZE engine, just get bigger cams, port the head and replace the pistons. Probably have to go to a stand alone to tune it all, but there's no reason you can't get over 200 HP normally aspirated. The world cars are making 225-230 without any porting due to class rules. Keep in mind that driveability is going to suffer (less low end, lousy idle) but depends on what you want to drive.

Forced induction is the way to go if you want to keep the driveability close to stock. If you like a raspy idle and less power down low in exchange for lots of high end HP, then go for it. I think the turbo kits are going to end up being cheaper in the long run though and infinitely more driveable.

Traveler: So you're saying just do all that with my stock engine and don't worry bout the other motor. I was thinking of doing that but then I saw the other motor and it's always better to start with an engine that already has more H.P. But if u say and I think I can too get my motor up to 200H.P then I'll just play with the motor that's in there. Oh not being a dick here but yeah I do like rough idle, and every thing that goes with high horsepower engines me and my dad built a blue 66 ford and put a Ford Racing 460 motor in it. If u want to see something that hauls the mail u should see it run...lol and for no horsepower down low I'll just throw a supercharger on it. :D
