a friend of mine wants a older miata for the summer time.

this is selling in the town we live in and I am more of a rotary mazda fan and dont know much about how long miata engines last and everything

obv we are going to test drive and see how it runs but how long does a miata engine typically last

thats it....i looked at it briefly in person but the ownerr wasnt home...the only thing i see from the outside of the car is it has a tear on the driver seat. but thats it

It is not uncommon for them to go well over 200K miles. Mine had 232K miles on it before the engine stopped and was replaced. Given the proper care, the engines can last longer. This one appears to be fairly low mileage. To be honest, I worry more about the rotary in our RX-8 than the engines we've had in our Miatas, over time. I'm just glad the RX-8 has a long warranty on the core. I'd ask if the timing belt has been changed, for one thing. That seems to be one of the things discussed as much as anything on another forum I'm on. You might want to see if it has the short crankshaft engine. I think that was just '90-'91; but, I could be wrong on that. Other than that, it's an older car; so, I'd expect a few bugs to iron out. It's still a lot cheaper than a new one. I also like the styling of the NA over all of the others.
