Is the 2nd gen mz5 more similar to the 1st or 2nd gen MS3? (chassis)

I'm still working on the turbo setup and I'm trying to figure out firewall clearances, hose routing, and alternator clearance (though I think the alt clearance issue is unique to the 2.5L engine, not a chassis issue).

I'm hoping someone here has been under the hood of some 3's and 5's.

I don't have access to a 1st or 2nd gen mz3 or MS3. But if I did, which one has more in common with the 2013 mz5?

Wish i could help more. I don't have access to exactly what you need. I have a gen1 Mz5 and a gen2 MS3. I CAN confirm that the Gen 1 Mz5 chassis bits are damn near identical to the gen 2 MS3. Down to the rear cross member and front sub frame, knuckles front and rear... so we can make an early assumption that if the my gen1 5 is so similar to my gen2 speed, that the similarities should carry over to the gen2 5.

Although your title says chassis, it sounds like you need under hood layouts. i never really bothered comparing their engine bays. Off the top of my head, the brakfluid reservoirs are in different locations but that's more a model difference than generation. It appears like the brake booster stayed in the same location but they shifted the battery and air box over on the 3. Maybe to make room for the MS3 TMIC. My MS3s engine bay is MUCH more cramped than the van's. If it helps, i'm more than willing to take tons of pics & measurements under both of my hoods, from under the engine bay, whatever you need, and compare them. Let's get that grocery getter poppin axles ASAP!

Yeah, "chassis" was bad word choice. In my world (OEM) the firewall (basically all sheetmetal) is considered "body", but I didn't want to use that word and confuse people who exclusively associate "body" with fenders. So I confused everyone by overthinking it, sounds about right.

Right now I'm really interested in the location of the alternator on the 2.3, so I can try to figure out how it is different from the 2.5, (since I was told it is different and may be an issue).

I'll try to take some pics of mine first so that if you are willing maybe you can take similar shots so that I can try to see what's the dealie-o.

Pretty sure I read on a forum here (so you know it must be true) all MZ5s are built on the 1st gen. MZ3 platform.
