iPod Interface + Bose = WIN

I thought I'd add one additional note to this write-up.

The EQ filter on the iPod should be turned OFF for best playback. I was always under the impression that EQ filters were disabled through the data cord, but that apparently is not the case with the OEM integration unit. Still loving this setup since I installed it back in March.

Don't mean to thread dig but I had a few questions and I thought this would be a good place.

Tried installing my buddy's ipod module from an older 3 into my 08.5 MS3 and it didn't work. I have since discovered why what with the new headunits and all.

However:

1. Roughly how large is that box that you installed in the dash. I would like to install mine so that the cord comes out around the aux port in the console. Based off of what you have done, knowing the size of the box and the length of the cords, do you think this would be possible? Putting the box behind the ash tray area and running the cord back underneath the shifter, cup holders, etc.?

2. What exactly is the "Integration Module" and what is the "Harness"? On mazdas website, they have both (and says harness is required). My buddy's older one looked kind of like yours but was just a box with a cord on one end going to the head unit and a cord on the other going to the ipod. His box may have been smaller but it is hard to tell from pics. What is this harness and is it really required? Did you use it in your installation?

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2008 MS3 GT (Bose). Do any of you guys know if swaping my head unit for a 2008.5/2009 Bose is simply plug and play? Are there any "unlock" codes or something like that involved?

Thanks!

1. There are multiple wires that connect to the HU, Aux harness, and LCD. So I don't think you can move the module very far from its intended mount location. The iPod cord is long, but it might be too far to have it run behind the HU, below the center console, and then exit into center storage area. I know of people that have run it down to the ashtray though...

2. You will need both the Module and the Harness for the installation. Get the harness with the Sirius option regardless of whether you plan to use it (same price). Here are the part numbers:

C291-79-CFZ & C9F4-V6-029
