Intake manifold install part 1

So i tried installing my j-spec intake manifold, and all i can say is that i failed. Not because i am not knowledged in how to do work on a car. But because of the fact that the j-spec parts line up differently than on the us version of the manifold. The stock egr pipe will not fit the j-spec manifold, and the only way to get it to fit is to force it. Once i got that on and the manifold on and situated, i ran into a problem with the throttle body, and a lack of clearance. One problem after another, so me and my buddy decided to just give up for the day and we put the stock manifold on for the time being. Damn the japanese, they are so sneeky, and to damn good , Anyway, i just wanted to let anyone interested in this product that it will be some work to get it to fit. Monday morning i will be calling mazda to see how much they will be charging me to get this installed. IF anyone has installed this product and can give me some pointers it would be greatly appreciated.

hmm, I know someone on a protege forum did this conversion and had a detailed how to with picutres, but I forget where. I guess you could hit up the good ole search engine.

yea, i will be at the meet, but does anyone have any tips on what to do?? or would it just be best to take it to a professional, such as a performance tuning shop, or mazda??

i doubt mazda would have a clue, take it to a pro tuning shop, they'd have a better idea.

i am aware of the write up and all that. I tried following his write up, however, things don't line up correctly on the j-spec manifold, and i don't have any clue what the hell a vics is...I am not the great with re-wiring electrical things, and i was hoping that this would pretty muchly be a direct swap, however it is not. It might take someone with more mechanics skill than i to do it. I am not saying that i am great or anything, but i am just saying that i lack the ability to figure outt where to re-hookup everything and finding new places for things. I think i will be leaving this one in the hands of a professional.

Yeah but I'm sure if you PM TheMAN with some questions you could get it done. I'm sure if you give it one more shot and have some questions answered, you can save the cash

VICS is short for Variable Intake Control System. if you look at your j-spec manifold there should be a set of butterfly valves in the intake runners. Those would be the acting part of the VICS system.
