Do you do mods ?

Looking for someone in the Atlanta area to do a few mods on my wife's '02 stock P5. Especially want the mod that keeps the AC from coming ON when you change the position of the airflow control switch on the dashboard. Zapwizard has details at the How-To section of this forum and at his homepage--www.zapwizard.com/car/air/. Also MaxxMazda did same AC mod at the how-to at www.mazda3club, formerly called protegeclub.com. Another mod Zap did was installing a second doorlock switch on the passenger side in the same position as the driver side switch.

I'd like to have one or both of these mods installed and would like some estimates on cost from anyone interested in making some extra bucks on the side. I'm in Gwinnett near Gwinnett Place Mall but can go to your place if you prefer.

If you can do this mod and others, email or call me at 770-476-5635 anytime.

Thanks,
Rick Hart

Well welcome to the forum. Hope someone on here doesn't mind helping you... unfortunately, I am not that guy. I barely know anything about these cars and I've had mine for a little while now. Good luck though.

Why do you want to prevent the A/C from coming on?
To have full control of the a/c system...
__

I could do both mods for you but I sure don't have the time to this month.
(I was planning on doing the passenger side door lock mod too but never had the chance to get to it -- the lock switch is somewhere packed away in the garage.)

hey rick havent had a chance to get back to you since i just got back from vacation. I am going to look over that stuff tomorrow and send you a pm

Full control is nice and all, but why would you be trying to defrost (defog around here) without the AC on?

I agree, but it also comes on when you put it on the lower setting (feet? lol)

I don't get this either. You can turn the temperature up so it doesn't freeze you out and still get the dehumidifying effect of the AC. The AC comes on because it assists with defrosting/defogging. Those silly engineers!

Yeah, it's never really bothered me much, definitely not enough to want to put forward the effort to change it lol

I think it's a dummy thing so people who think that AC = cold (90% of people I've talked to, including some "car people") don't turn off the AC to defrost and fog up the windows in the process.

this mod has nothing at all to do with the defrost...yes a side effect is having to turn the ac on manually when in defrost....however if you notice and i did because it used to stall my car out, when the blend selector is on the "Foot only" setting the AC kicks on

You and I are thinking the same thing Tinman; I actually was responding (and agreeing with you) but my post got out of order (and I can't quote from my work computer for some reason---shhhhh!). I'm not sure what is up with the AC in foot only mode, but clearly AC should be on when defrosting/defogging, and you are right most people think AC just cools, and don't realize it also dehumidifies. I actually can't remember ever seeing my AC off when I engage the auto-climate function in my MS6; but like I said, I figure it was engineered that way to function most efficiently (and Louisville is the humidity capital of the world, or at least in the top 10).

Air Conditioning /= cooling alone. Just what we are most accustomed to using it for.

I want the mod that will allow me actually use the A/C on a fan setting other than 1, 4 or that sweet spot that sometimes works if you can find it just perfect and not a bump between 2 and 3 setting.

just read the write up...mod seems simple enough, pretty straight foward just a little time consuming
