just saw the commercial this morning. practially laughed my ass off. like many people have heard of initial d yet. the videos were only released here recently.
BTW: I really hope the character voices on the comercial were nothing like the dub on the dvd release. if it is, its horrible.

my brother went to japan like 2 years ago and bought back a dickload of those choro q racers and the hachi roku with ty and rys bodies was one of them.
that bastard didnt know what it was so he gave it to my dad. he thought it was a police car.
but i did get a white r-34, i play w/ that s*** all the time. he got a celica,london bus,2 evos, a blue r34, and a wrx.
the zipzaps have multi controller issues at times, signal crossing n s***.the choro q is infrared-optimum if you plan on playing with it all day.

The dub version here is simply horrible!
first the music is completely different, just throws the whole rythme of the series off.
The voices overs are decent but the lingo is terrible.

Bunta's voice is horrible, Itzu is ok and the other voices overs are pretty decent sounding.
But having seen the orginal for many years now, the dub version was completely unwatchable.
Oh ya and the car sounds are nasty. Where in the orginal they actually took real recordings, here they all sound like Hondas with fake tire burn outs.

I think the only reason I would consider buying them is because the video quality will be so much better than the vcd mpgs I have now (so long as the dvd also has original audio) then again, there will likely be the obligatory price jack because its anime combined with limited availability (unless walmart,etc decides to carry them - doubtful) and having to wait forever for the full series to be released.
I actually got it cause I work part time as a manager at Blockbuster, and figured what the hell may as well see what the difference is.
Have owned the full orginal version for a few years along with several other Initial D items, plus roomate owned a AE86.
I'm most likey going to return the DVD, that or burn it.
