I was talking to my bro-n-law a while back and he had mentioned how he had downloaded firmware updates for his personal Mp3 player that let him fasforward and rewind mp3 tracks.

I thought Kenwood would definitely have something like this available for their expensive mp3 players thart are installed in our cars, but after searching the internet and their site without any luck, I must say i'm very dissapointed.... It would have been very cool to be able to get more out of our mp3 players with firmware updates.

I mean Kenwood went as far as making one of their other CD players versatile enough that you can upload a picture or animation to it's lcd screen .... but nothing as far as I know for our stereos.

BTW, if anyone knows about firmware availabilities for our stereos please let me know.

PS. I'm talking about the z919.

Being a software engineer for a company that releases many versions of software for theatre lighting systems, I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to support multiple releases of software. Once you allow new versions, then everyone wants it to do everything and you get to the point where you are expected to write SW that the HW was never designed to do.

Plus they have to have some means of loading the SW into the device. I'm not sure how that would happen.

I agree though, it would be cool to have SW updates.

Well I know for my bro-n-laws personal cd player, all he had to do was burn the firmware on a cd and then play the cd in his cd-player, and WHAM! ... he had an updated version.

Technology... what a bee-uuu-tiful thing.

I would think Kenwood would be able to do the same sort of thing if they provided firmware updates.

Don't you just love that. I love it when people expect you to do things that you can't because of some limitations in the hardware, or the software...Or the law...Whatever the case might be...

And then when you say, "I'm sorry, but I can't do X, Y and Z because A, B and C won't allow it."

Then they get angry and blaim you for someone elses decisions, design flaws, etc...

Yeah, I was dissapointed in that from day 1. I have a Rio Volt mp3 CD player, and have had it since a few months before I got my car. You can update the firmware via a CD. Our buggy kenwood units have no means of updating. That's REALLY weak.
