:wtf: I swear, at least twice a week, I'm grinding 2nd! I'm so sick and tired of it. I've never had this problem with a stick before (I've owned 10 of them). What's the deal??? I am tempted to take it to the shop, but it seems very sporatic. It's like the syncros are non-existant on this thing! I think I'll call up the shop tomorrow. Maybe stop to HP Motorsports to pick up some Redline.

Sorry, just had to vent.

Thanks for listening,

Sam

i do the same thing... sometimes u just dont push the clutch in all the way but u think that u do. i do it in my P5 sometimes as well but it doesnt matter to mutch, gears are ment to be grinded sometimes. or it just might be a MP5 thing to do is grind 2nd. hondas grind 3rd if u shift extremely fast for a split sec.

hey if u cant find it...grind it!!

That's kind of wierd, every now and then I do it as well and I don't know why (had sticks all my life), but I think I screw up when I do it, I think my feet aren't in synch or something. Funny that it isn't just me, but I don't think it is the tranny (who knows. . .it has enough problems already).

same thing here.. always 2nd gear... I dont worry about it too much because it only happens one in a blue moon, but its always 2nd.

I tell the tranny to "respect my authoritie!". . .no problems so far.

But it doesn't happen often, just "once in a blue moon" (man how old are we, or is it just from our parents. . .damn that phrase). :)

i havent grinded 2nd for maybe 6 months now. 2nd is a bit more "crunchy" then the rest, and it comes and goes being smooth as butta. i find it matters what rpm you shift at, 3.5-4.5 seems to help me make it a smoother transition into second than say 3, perhaps because it needs to drop more rpms because of the greater gear ratio difference for 1-2 than any other gear to go in smooth.

just a theory.

that whould suck
my friend broke 1st and 2nd in his WRX while we where having some fun in the Dirt. thank good for waranty!

It's always second, so I'm sure it's not me

Glad to hear I'm not the only one doing it. I'm know I'm getting the clutch in all the way, since I moved the seat up further because of it.

It's more embarassing than anything, I think. That's why it bothers me so much! :D I'm still going to talk to Mazda tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do.

There isn't any clutch adjustment on these, are there? Didn't see one in the manual and figured there wasn't one since it was hydraulic.

It's weird...doesn't seem to matter if I'm casually driving and shifting at low RPMs or if I'm pushing it a bit and shifting at 6K (not that I EVER do that :p )

happens to me as well. Of course i drive a work van all week and it always happens when the wife is with me. I usually get some rude comments about my driving! LOL Wich just invites me to drive like ass for a few minutes! :)

I grind into 5th on occasion when I'm lazy shifting at 40mph or so, and I missed 3rd once or twice, but never 2nd.

My assumption was that I am too tall and the shifter is too far away when my legs are in the right place.

only time I grinded 2nd was when I first got the car. I came from a Honda tranny, and noticed right away that you have to put the clutch all the way to the floor, shift, then release in these Mazda's. The woman had troubles at first as well. But since I realized this, not one problem (knock on wood). I noticed the same thing in ES's, and p5's.

how the **** have you been spelling would all your life? whould? wood?

I have never grinded a gear either till I got my P5. now I ALWAYS frind 2nd and only second. although the short shifter and bushing helped a lot.

Sorry, I blame the Norwegian side of my family for the weird phrases. Visit South Dakota (where I was born) and you will pick up tons of phrases you wish you hadn't.

I had crunching as well in 2nd. Since using Redline MT 90 is has reduced the grinding and made shifting much smoother.

haha, damn, someone's getting vicious.

i've only grinded a few times, but as a whole, i love 2nd because until later this week when i get my new wheels, i haven't been able to get a good 1st gear acceleration. The chick i bought from left me with 15" winter tires!! so 2nd is where i feel the power of my baby.
