I can't get my muffler off :(

I recieved my Mazdaspeed Exhaust today in the mail for my P5, so I was all excited to get it on there, but no matter how much liquid wrench I use, or how hard I try, I can't get the bolts on the stock muffler to budge. Now I'm incredibly pissed because I have to go to class, and I don't get to hear my nice shiny new muffler. Any tips on how to get those damn stock bolts to turn?

I don't want to have to take it to the dealer so they can charge me 70 bucks for something that will take them 10 mins.

Try taking a long section of pipe or otherwise and attaching it to the end of the ratchet to give you some more torque to break the bolt loose. When I install mine next week I am using my air tools. But unless you have those the only thing you can do is take it to the dealer or a muffler shop. BTW I started putting liquid wrench on my bolts the day I ordered my exhaust. Although it only has 10K on it I still don't want any headaches.

Good luck

Yeah, I didn't think the bolts would be a big problem. I only have 6,000 miles on the car. I may take it to a muffler shop and see if they will do it for cheap, or see if any of my more car savvy friends has air tools.

when i tried to get mine off it was such a b**** but after about a gallon of liquid wrench and my arms and hands going to hell i finally got the muffler off, putting the new one in was cake compared to gettting the damn thing off

Get those damn bolts off!

I used a socket wrench and a rubber mallet to bang the s*** out of the wrench to pry those bolts off. Also, let the WD40 soak in for like an hour before doing so. Good luck.

you live in CA. There shouldn't be that must rust on it.

I had 13.7k miles on mine when I put on my racing beat.

It took a little effort but mine popped off fine. Are you using
the right socket size? I hit mine with a little liquid wrench
then got it off just fine. Did you let it cool off completely
before trying?

The mallet should be fine too if it's still tight.

soak the s*** out of it then come back in an hour and try it. I wouldnt go to an exhaust shop. do it yourself.

I braced my foot on the bendin the midpipe and just cranked it. It helps if you scream and scream and scream! :)

Finally got it off... but it was worth it! :)

I used liquid wrench on mine to no avail. I ended up snapping them off and replacing them. My exhaust came with new ones.

Well it's installed! After I got home from class, my dad said he talked to a guy down the street he knows who owns a muffler shop, so he took it off for free. I wasn't gonna take the time to jack up the car again and struggle with the bolts, if I had an offer for a guy with air tools to do it for no charge. Took him less than 10 mins. I LOVE the sound! Totally happy with it.
