I was trying to put on my shift knob that i've had for a while now. And from the get go i knew i was gonna **** up. First thing, i tried to see if i could take off the stock shift knob thingy, with the overdrive button still inside. Sadly, i didn't, and i snapped the little triangular plastic piece that pretty much allows my car to shift. So i tried to superglue it back on, and it stayed for a while, but whenever i tried to shift, it wouldn't go, even with the car on, and my foot on the breaks. Soooo, some more fiddling we did. Than, when we took out the plastic piece, which was superglued and taped, the spring inside popped out, and hit me in my forehead. i was like "WTF!?!?!", than after that, a little lever thingy at the bottom of the shaft fell off. I honestly don't know what it does, but i seen it before it fell off, and i was like, "This cannot be good at all"
Now, i was in the parking lot at Safeway with my friend while doing this, so i had to fix it somewhat, just to get home at least. So we fiddled around somemore, and we were able to get it to work right, sorta. We ended up not using the white plastic piece, the spring inside the shaft, or that little lever at the bottom of it. The result, a REALLY short shifter, that shifts to any position without having to press my foot on the break, or needing the car to be on in order to shift. I actually like the look of it, since the shift knob rides really low, but....i'm scared it might get stuck or something later on, so i gotta get it fixed, probably at mazda, since i don't think anyone else could fix it, and that will cost some money, which i need for the paint job. So yeah, as long as my car can shift, i'm keeping it until i can get it fixed, but check out the pics i took afterwards. I actually like the look of it to be honest. All i need is a Shaundarbie boot now, and i'm good to go.
