hub rings/new rims install?

Just got my Konig's today with 205/40/17 Yokohama Parada Spec II's and it comes with hub centric rings but the rings were to tight of a fit for the rims to fit snug on the hub. So i ditched the rings but my question is are they really needed? The rings are just to make sure the wheel sits perfectly center on the hub when you tighten the lugs but I was under the impression this can be achieved by tightening the lugs in a certain sequence(not exactly rocket science)

some wheels need them, some don't...they do exactly what you said, but if it is too tight with them on, then the wheel should fit fine without them...Notice that the wheel studs are most likely smaller than the bores in the wheel...If every single stud does not appear to be directly in the middle of each hole, you have a problem (you will need to hold the wheel in place to be sure)...My Tecnomagnesio wheels did need the center rings, but they had a huge space for the center axle nuts compared to my friend's Konig Tantrums...Most likely everything will be perfect even without the center rings...
