How-To: Eliminate Glove Box Rattle

Spent a little time troubleshooting the glove box rattle today. Some other members reported that the passenger foot vent piece was very poorly secured. So I wrapped two cable ties around the passenger foot vent and the metal pipe behind/underneath the glove box. Then I put some electrical tape over the plastic clip that secures the vent piece. Hopefully now it'll be more secured and less proned to rattle. What I could've done, in retrospect, is put some padding on the back of the vent piece and then secured it, but we'll see how this idea works:

And then I put some extra padding on the glove box since it was off already:

It warmed up again the last few days down in FL, so when the temps drop again, I'll report back. Never had an issue with the glove box rattle during warmer temps here :)

holy crap i am doing that in my girlfriends mazda3. i cannot stand the rattle and her response when i ask about it is "i dont care, i just turn up the music" so i thank you my good sir

Thank you Hank!

I've seen a how-to before but your pictures are excellent.
I developed this rattle after replacing my cabin air filter.

You're welcome. Keep in mind, there have been other how-to's on eliminating the glove-box rattle. It's YMMV situation. Certain fixes work and certain don't. You kinda have to just find what works best for you. I've basically included a few of the fixes that I've seen people try. Hopefully doing them all will have a good resolution.

You might not even hear the rattling once it gets warmer.

I couldn't find s*** on this anywhere. The rattle drives me crazy and had no idea where it was coming from other than near the glovebox somewhere. Let me know your results guys. I notice the noise more in the winter than summer.

Can you see the cable ties once the glove box is all back together?

Nope...not unless you get down and look up behind the glove box. Sit in the paseenger seat and feel how loose the foot vent piece is. It literally is held on by the clip on the right hand side and then loosely over the HVAC duct.

Went for a drive last night and this morning to work. Temps were around 50's and 40's, respectively, and the rattles I heard prior to the fix were not heard. So far, so good:)

I will be doing this when I get an opportunity and maybe some warmer weather.
