HAHA Im not queer or anything, Im talking about exhaust.

Got my intake installed, installing the B&M shifter tommorow, next is exhaust.

I cant afford a catback so I will make one probably using a DTM or Tom Motorsports muffler, I am planning to eliminate 2nd cat & stock resonator and use aftermarket resonator and muffler.

What I need to know is what diameter of exhaust tubing do you recommend for max power gains with minimum sound gains.

My car sadly will never see a turbo, so I was thinking 2-1/4"

Help me out guys!

2-1/4 should do just fine. That is what I have on my car. No bigger than that tho.

yep ... no bigger than 2.25". more than that and you'll lose torque and overall power.

How much power (if any) should he gain from that exhaust? Should he consider saving up for cat back?

well you should be in the range of my car... i dynoed it and got 116-117 hp and 122-124 lb-ft .... with an aem intake and exhaust... i kept the rb muffler and got 2.25 piping from before the 2nd cat back.... i had the 2nd cat and resonator removed....

how loud is the stock mp3 exhaust with the custom piping? a sound clip would be appreciated. i'm looking to get 2.25 piping and remove the resonator, but if removing the 2nd cat doesnt make it too loud i might go ahead with that too. what did you do with the o2 sensor, and did it throw any codes?

thanks

stock piping is 2"...no point in getting custom piping if its the same size as stock.

Why would going larger than 2.25 on stock engine cause it to loose torque and power overall? I'm new to the sport compacts but I would think that reducing backpressure in the exhaust by going larger would result in incresed power and torque. Plus isn't torque more of a fuction of primary header length anyways?

i dont have a camcorder so i cant get a sound clip for a few days but it is louder but not too loud.. it sounds very nice it sounds almost exactly like the intake and now i cant tell which is which... im happy with how much i spent on it but im getting it redone when i get my header ...

yeah if you could get that soundclip that would be phat. is it possible for a muffler shop to just cut out the resonator and weld in a new piece of pipe? how much did you pay for your 2.25"?
