just cleaned the filter on my injen cai yesterday w/ the k&n recharger kit and was just wondering how often everyone cleans their filter or how often "should" you clean it. thanks in advance for your reply and please respect everyone's comments.

I clean it about once a year, but I look at it once every couple of months or so just to make sure it's still hanging.

is that the only way to clean it, with a k&n kit? im just curious because ive had mine almost 6 months, not sure if it needs cleaned or not?

it's definately one of the easiest ways plus it only costs $10. if OK is anything like az you'll be safe w/ cleaning it every six months due to the dust and dirt

i clean mine every 2-3 oil changes because of how dusty tucson is. i'm at my 6 months now... i'm feeling kinda lazy, so i guess i'll do it in march... unless i get bored and do it soon.

4 times a year, more if the conditions warrant it,,,e.g. lot's of dust etc...

here's a question: How do you clean the filter when it's way down there behind all that stuff? Do you essentially have to tear apart your bumper to get at it? Does anyone know of a how-to thread to clean it?

Just take the filter off the intake pipe... use the "can of air" to dust off/clean the filter. If you are feeling frisky you can soak the filter in dish soap to clean it a bit better. Let dry. Use the oil/lube that is supplied with the KNN filter re-charger and button everything back up. Its very simple.

it's really easy to access the filter.
1) turn your wheels all the way to the right
2) remove 3-4 screws/tabs from the left wheel well so you can pull it back enough to loosen the clamp on the filter
3) under the front bumper on the driver's side is a plastic cover. remove 3 screws to gain access to the filter and remove it through there

don't use compressed air. you might tear a hole in your filter. just follow the directions on the k&n kit. it works wonders.

I recharge mine about twice a year, and every time I do I say to myself "You know, I could have waited a while longer". Although, this does depend on your road conditions. Never use compressed air of any kind and don't use hot water to rinse it (it will shrink the cotton). Also, when rinsing, rinse from the inside out so as not to further embed particles of dirt. Let it fully dry before applying the oil (and go easy on the oil... it doesn't take much!).
