If the block is real steel/cast, then it could by itself be a good 150 lbs, assuming you have the rods, crank, pistons, everything still in it.
If this is the case, I would definitely not be expecting to be able to pick up the whole engine (i.e., block+head+whatever) by yourself, and you will definitely see the difference in suspension travel. Think of it as the weight of a 6'6" man.
Just for the sake of conversation, I drove around with that 2.4L block in the trunk of a '95 Merc Tracer for about a month at least. it actually rode better that way, now the suspension is shot. But it also has 213k miles and is worth about a nickel.
