Is this normal for my rotor hubs to rust??? would the dealer fix or replace the hubs??? How many have gotten this done?

There is a TSB for the rust on the hubs. Depending on the dealer, some may or may not want to fix it for you. The fix usually involves pulling off the rotor, and painting the non-contact surface with some high temp paint.

so wait, are you talking about just rust on your brake rotors? there is nothing to fix.. look at any car, it does that buddy... the first time you use your brakes, its gone...

I think what he means is...brake rotor hubs, correct? I've got it on mine and it's starting to piss me off.
I took it to the dealer a couple of times for other things and asked them to fix it, but they say that i'd have to pay for it myself.

because the dealerships don't always want to do it/recognize the tsb. i took mine in to the dealer and they were shitheads about it cau'se i'm past 12 months/12k miles (the rust warranty). they will sand it down for you but that's about it.
others did have some luck with other dealers though. the search button will guide you.

Like phreak said, dealers could be shitheads. Plus, if you do it yourself (very easy to do by the way) you could choose whatever colour you want.

I asked about this when I first got my car & most of the people at the dealer didn't know anything or told me it would go away. When I finally found some intelligent service people, they told me that you get it done once for free. I think they sand the hubs down, machine them, & then repaint them...supposed to take about 2 hours. I will be getting this done just as soon as I can find some free time to drive over there.

wow i have the same problem. and i hate the mazda dealership down here. they'll probably need my car ALL day like when i asked them to fix my subwoofers.

I have been un-successful in getting a dealer to fix this... grrrrrr

My rotor hubs started rusting right after I took the car home and this is California in the middle of the summer. I mean within 2 weeks. I have shown them the TSB and they say, there is no TSB for the Mazdaspeed it's normal... BS it's normal, my Protege5 that I drove for 20k miles never started rusting on the rotor hubs.

If anyone is successful in this endeavor or knows of a TSB number that applies to the Mazdaspeed please let us all know.

Thanks!

If you have problems with a dealer not wanting to do something, go over their head. Eventually you'll reach someone who cares AND can actually do something about it.

Like I said, they told me that they do 1 time for free under warranty. I didn't even have to mention a TSB.

It is normal, given that rotors are high carbon steel... just sand and pain the hubs yourself, then you don't have to have some unknown monkey touching your car. You can't trust anyone to do as careful of a job as you would to your own car.

I would do it myself anyways....although mine are fine.

Think about it, do you really want some half pissed off jerk, who doesn't have half a clue, ripping your wheels off, and spray painting something?

I would do it myself.

sounds good... can i get a descriptive how-to on doing it for myself?? id like to paint them a REALLY light colored silver to make my wheels look dark :-D once I do it will it be a permanent fix?
