Looks good. Like the creativity.
Kinda funny you mention Home Depot. One of the guys that I autocross with, that also happens to be the reigning champ from last year, claims to have more parts from Home Depot and Lowes on his car than from any other company, and it's not a joke. He made an air dam inthe front out of aluminum siding. The funny part is, it looks damn good! If he hadn't said anything, you'd think it was a spendy custom unit. He also has some under-the-hood fix-ups, like a home made intake and such, that seem to work very well.

Yeah I saw the same material at a local Pep Boys APC made for a civic grill or something about 1/3 material I got at home depot for 40$.

I got 3 8 ft by 6 inches slabs for 3$, APC was about 6 inches by 6 ft only one slab. It was custom cut thoe. BUT 40$! come on.

Home depot Custom only way to go.

Looks great. Got a few questions for ya since everyone that does this tries it a different way, and I want to get a consensus before I do it myself.

1) Did you just pull out the stock grills and trace them onto the new mesh?

2) Does just a plain old pair of cutters work, or do you need something special?

3) Is it rust-proofed already, or do you recommend something else?

Thanks for the info!

1. Pulled out stock grills traced them as a template.
2. Any metal cutters will work, takes alot of snipping.
3. Aluminum will not rust I believe.
ALSO WEAR SOME GLOVES, cut my self numerous times on the metal's sharp edges.
Also a file might be needed so it does not scratch the paint around the edges , just in case.

Looks great! I work at the home depot and I walk by that stuff every day and think should I? or should I not? Thanks for the pic ...think I will bring home some tomorrow and put the hubby to work...LOL

did the same thing on my p5...
i took of the grill... brokle like 6 out of 10 clips

it looks weird now cuz like the two ends are sticking out :(
and oh yeah,... how did you hold the grill? i used some sort of clips

looks bad-ass btw

The top one is held in by steel rod ties, bottom is zip ties. There is no way it could possibly come out.

did this way back last summer and as it went through the first winter i thought that it would last.......it held up nicely, but they tarnished a little.......so looks kinda brownish at spots.......considering the cost, it's not a big deal, but just thought i'd let you know that if you do this and have to drive through winter and salt, it will tarnish.......not sure how to get rid of it.......another option is to use the stainless steel sheets that a lot of custom muffler makers use to place inside their mufflers..........to attach it to the plastic mazda frame, i used aluminum wiring which has not corroded and match the gutter mesh just as well..........

btw......looks good.......but then again, i'm biased........hhaahaha

i never liked the look of metal mesh grills. not that it looks bad, just not to my taste.

maybe if it was black/ gunmetal.
