Hiboost FMIC Installed Question ??

Hi everyone,

I installed my new intercooler.
I chose Hiboost and I am very satisfied the look and the result. I run in Dual Setup. Vacuum line activates the BPV and Wastegate and for the BOV I use Brake Booster Vacuum.

My Setup:
Standard BOV Greddy S
Custom CAI
Boost Stock 5.5
Dual Setup with OEM BPV

Question:
1- Is it necessary to reset the ECU after the installation.
2- Since I installed my kit FMIC, I noticed that my clutch was much harder than before (to a significant degree). Do you think that I broke something, or it is only a coincidence.
3- If my BOV is adjusted too much softer, my car wants stall (or hesitated) even in accceleration. It is normal ?
4- My boost is stock and I as noticed as the needle of my boost "shake" between 5 - 6 PSI very quickly. It is normal ?

Note : The pictures will come soon.

Excuse me for my bad english. :(

1 - Not necessary, but recommended. Will help your car more quickly re-adjust to the new modifications

2- I don't think this is a coincidence. Make sure you aren't rubbing/bending/kinking any lines. Double check off the master cylinder area and below the intercooler>throttle body pipe wher the space is tight

3- If your BOV is adjusted too soft it could leak. Most likely it just needs more use. After sitting for a while the valve can get stuck and just need to be used a bit more to grease it up. Just tighten it up a little bit. Since you are running a dual set up you can have it tighter without worry of compressor surge. My Type S didn't seam to leak at 5 psi, or at the 10psi.

4- This could just be your gauge. Mine used to do that too. Double check all your vacume connections for a tight seal. I replaced all my vac lines for my gauge (T'd off intake manifold line) and the gauge reads steady now.

I dont know where is the master cylinder. Do you have a picture ?

It's the piece that sticks out of the firewall in front of the steering wheel. It's a metal piece on bottom with a plastic container on top holding fluid.

Often times your last intercooler pipe will rub against the Master Cylinder right where the pipe connects to the throttle body if the pipe is not lined up perfectly. My self and a few other members have had this issue with the hiboost kit.

Yes, I find my problem. Thank you.

I have a Turbosmart MBC and I would like to install in my car.

My Setup:
FMIC Hiboost
Custom CAI
Stock exhaust line with CAT
OEM Spark plug

How much PSI I can adjust my boost? Best setting to run safe.

Don't touch the boost until you at least have some free flowing exhaust, and even then without any engine management I might go as high as 8. I've had mine a lot higher and it was fine, but thats when I was dumb.

Do you have a 03 with an unflashed ecu? or a 3.5 with a flashed ecu? If your ecu is flashed you have advanced timing and raising the boost past 8 isn't a good idea. Get a new exhaust, perferrably catless to relieve backpressure then you'll be better equipped to run higher boost levels.

Getting some colder spark plugs will help prevent detonation.

Then save up for a FMIC to lower the intake charge temps and you'll prob be ok to run 10psi if you drive smart.

I have a Mazdaspeed 2003.5 with flashed ECU and I would like to run 8 PSI constant and I think I have peak to 9.5 PSI with my MBC.

Just don't floor it at low rpms. Without an upgraded exhaust you can get a lot of backpressure. The stock "J" pipe has an internal minimum diameter of like 1.7" built for the Euro deisel protege. That's too small, especially when followed by two catalitic converters.

Find a local race/tune shop that will make you a pipe for "off road use only" that replaces the stock "J" pipe and midpipe, 2.5" internal diameter either with or without a hi-flow cat. That will relieve a lot of the backpressure and make running 8-9.5 psi a lot safer.

Or order one from Metal Addiction, Apex or one of our vendors. I have the Apex 2.5" midpipe with the "J" pipe built in. Works great and with the stock resonator/muffler isn't too loud.

New HiBoost MSP FMIC Kit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the new Front Mount Inrtercooler Kit that we just developed for the Mazdaspeed Protege.

Just as we promised a month ago, the new kit is already in production.

It comes with the following:

Spearco core with HiBoost polished cast aluminum end tanks
Chrome plated mandrel bent piping
Cast aluminum BOV casting (I/C to Throttle Body)
Silicone Hoses
Hump hoses to avoid vibration
SS hose clamps
HKS High Performance recirculatory BOV
Fan cover
Brackets and bolts

There is a big difference in air inlet temperature, faster throttle response and 1 lb more of boost with stock settings.
Price $900.00

This is a bolt-on kit and does not require any cutting of body to fit.

For more information e-mail info@hiboost.com

Before I install my intercooler, my boost was to 5.5 PSI. If I look at the specifications of Hiboost (See above in red), then in theory I should have 6.5 PSI, But I have 5.5 PSI. Is it publicity to sell or it is true?
