Help with my modding please!

Okay...Just want to say thank you in advance for your help.

So far, my engine mods only consist of the mazdaspeed CAI. I have purchased a DP and MP from Turboxs, and seriously considering Turboxs HBOV. With these three bolt-ons, will I run into any problems as far as fuel cut and turbo spool are concerned? I'm also thinking of just bringing my car down to Chicago and having Jorge tune it for me after I have all of the above installed, is this a wise way to spend my money? Please let me know your thoughts, and all suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks again!

tune it with what?

As far as boost/fuel cut etc....maybe it depends on the temps. If it's above like 40 you will be fine.

Hybrid bov is prob your best bet if you wanna make some noise but if performance/functionality is your main concern get a bypass valve

I would like to get the car tuned down in Chicago at P&L Motorsports. I was thinking of getting the Hybrid BOV but having it recirculate and act as a BPV. Just if I ever wanted to sell the car, the potential buyer will have his/her options. And...I like the way it looks :).

you'll need some sort of tuning hardware though thats what im asking about. only thing really out now is the CPE standback. With that you'll have to cut/splice wires if you're okay with that. The Cobb Accessport will be out soon and you will be able to take it to a cobb dealer and get tuned...CPE is supposed to have a PNP (plug n play no cutting) unit out sometime too.

I don't think you can have the turboxs hybrid function as a bpv? The turbosmart unit you can convert it from full recirc, hybrid, or full VTA. BUT it does cost a lot lol. It's also nice that you can twist the top of it to adjust spring stiffness..no springs/shims to deal with.

AARRGGG....Didn't know I needed some sort of tuning hardware...thought they could just hack into my computer and do the tuning from there. Oh well...looks like no tune for me...

The turboxs HBOV I did read incorrectly. I thought it was either recirculating or full VTA, not both at the same time...good thing you corrected me! They do make a recirculating BPV that I will most likely get now. Thanks!

So...without that tuning hardware, what are my options on avoiding boost and fuel cut?

haha my buddy is an evo guy and when i mentioned getting this car all he could say was to make sure that i didn't just rely on bolt-ons, that i tune the car for the bolt-ons, and my only reply is "tune it with what?"

i'm so excited for the accessport!

with your mods you should be fine, unless its really cold out you might get boost cut

Hopefully I will be "fine". I do live in Minnesota and it gets quite cold here. However, in the winter, I dont really drive hard. Maybe for this year, I'll stick with just the boltons and then next spring possibly splurge on some sort of tuning hardware.

Yeah, Haberdashery...the AP was supposed to come out according to Cobbs website "Late first quarter of 2008". Should be out soon hopefully, for everybody that is set on getting one.

Yep, I've got one preordered, lol. Hopefully sometime this month.. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I hit what I think was boost cut once with turboback and intake. It was like 40 degrees out. I also had just isntalled the downpipe so the computer hadn't really learned yet, so I was boosting a few psi higher than what it should/what I do now

Yes the Turbo XS is a 50/50... but I must say it works really well. Feels like stock. Not enough noise for me, but liveable. The Turbosmart unit is the adjustable valve. You can do full VTA, full bypass, or anywhere in between. I looked at it, but $200 tsx VS $400 turbosmart.

Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming you have either an SRI or a CAI, lestat? Does it sound funny that you have 50% recirculating and then 50% VTA? Or does the VTA overpower the recirculating noise that comes out the intake?

Actually no intake yet. Been waiting about a month for the Cobb SRI though. I've heard clips and even the stock bpv can be heard, at least dead reving on youtube it can be ;) I will never go CAI because I've personally seen 3 of my friends hydrolock motors with them (Civic, SRT-4 and turbo firstgen DSM).

As far as the sound, it's nothing spectacular, but it's a good sound. It is your standard air escaping sound. I get no recirc sound, just the blow off. I NEVER got any intake or recirc sound at all before this. You can tell that it's from a smaller opening than some of your large VTA blow offs... definitly NOT a mopar sound. If the radio is low or my window is open I can hear it with no problems. Once you start turning up the radio it gets covered. Traveling faster than about 90mpg the wind noise mostly covers it as well.

So I want more volume, and the intake is apparently going to give me that. For installation you do need to remove a plastic piece from the front of the airbox (over the snorkel) but it shouldn't hurt anything. Any more questions, let me know.

Btw, no idle or fuel cut problems. Drives like stock.

LOL, I see you scratched your stock airbox a lil trying to install that bad boy. It looks nice though! I have the mazdaspeed CAI so I believe I wouldn't have a problem installing the BPV. There is a ton of space there right now. With just the intake I have, I can really hear the stock BPV. But yeah, the wind and radio to come into play and tend to drown out the sound. I just want a BPV that will hold my boost and not leak while giving me decent sound.
