HELP !!! Stereo is Toast !!!

It started out a nice Easter Day, then on the return home we stopped and filled the car up... As we left the gas station the stereo cut off and the face plate opened then died... Any Ideas??? I checked the fuses, and they looked good... Is there any fuses that are hidden??? Has anyone else had this problem???
Thanks......

If everything went dead then its the radio.
The might be a fuse behind the radio or it may have just jammed up. Try unplugging the negative battery terminal for a few minutes then plug it back in to reset the radio, it may jump out of it
Obviously check the fuse in the kick panel for the radio and make sure its ok.

why is everyone's radio dying?? i have had no problems with ANY kenwood headunits. i've installed like 6 of them all with d-mask and had problems with none. i've got no complaint calls from my customers. i myself have owned a kenwood head unit for the 3 years i've been driving. wtf did mazda do to these things?

From whayt I have seen being at Tweeter for a few years now and on this board for that time aswell. The Z919, Z828 and MP919 used by Mazda were most likely bought becuase Kenwood could not sell off those models easily, especialy the Z919. There is also the chance they are all refurbished units.
Kenwoods have been doing terrible around here lately. More of them are coming back for service than almost anything else.
The KDC-X469 is the biggest turd on the planet.

yeah i know about the x469, so i don't recommend my customers get it. but i'm just saying. 3 years of living with one and 1.5 years installing car stereo, i have never encountered a problem until i saw this board. it's just strange to me sry.

When I had my MSP deck replaced the second time, the dealer told me that this one was a NEW unit from kenwood, the first time it was replaced it wasn't a new unit....

My stereo died like that, so I pressed the reset button. It has worked fine ever since.

The button is very small and on the faceplate, (use a toothpick or something to press it). It's along the bottom to the left of most of the other buttons. Check your manual if you can't find it.

I feel like an IDIOT !!!

Thanks for the advice.... I hit the reset button and now it works like a champ !!!
Mucho Apreciato !!!!

No problem. And don't feel dumb, I didn't figure it out either - a friend of mine who knows a lot about car stereos told me to do that :)

Dunno, but my amp (or sub) is shot. I had my battery disconnected and when I hooked everything back up I have no subwoofer....any ideas? I've checked all fuses, and I have a power light on the amp.

If you read the stuff that comes along w/ the car, is says when you lose power (aka take your battery out) you have to reset the settings (and they give you them).

That's why you have no sub

Try this...when the stereo is on, press and hold the "AM" button (top left of face)...that is a control to turn off and on the sub.

Mabye that will work for you.

My sub worked fine after I reset my stereo, I didn't change anything. I had never disconnected my battery, so maybe that makes a difference, but I doubt it since I had to reset everything else (time, pre-sets etc.)

I just picked up my black msp on Saturday.

I got about 4 miles up the road before I realized that the kenwood face never flipped. I pulled over, shut down, restarted, pushed on the left corner: no soup. I could hear the little bugger whir-ing up a storm trying to spin, but no go. Drove right back to the dealer to let them know - they want me to come in today when the good techs are there.

:'(

i was out on the highway and my kenwood was playing all normal and then it just suddenly flipped out and 1/2 folded in. *shrugs*

pressed reset and it was fine....but there is obviously something wrong with these headunits

My cousin already changed his, but I think they gave him a refurbished unit. Had a scratch on the trim plate and the remote looked old. I might remove it soon and check it out, since it did the same thing again. Unfortunately Hiley Mazda in Arlignton sucks for service. Their service writer (a manly chick) knows nothing about Protege's in general, maybe does not even know anything about cars at all. She wanted us to leave the car since it would take more than a day to remove the radio, since they had to remove the whole center dash 'BS'. Then we told her to not put a single scracth since we take extremely good car of this car, and Lord and Behold, 2 scratches on the pocket and in the center trim. Its ridicolous. We are afraid of taking back to any dealership for work.

My 2 cents.

::wtf:

This is EXACTLY what happened to me this morning. If you'll notice my post above, I've had this car 5 days and had the stereo working for only 2 1/2. Kind of irritating. And the service dept can get me in on _Monday morning_. :@

Have fun trying to fix your radios. I bought my car on Feb 8, and im now on my 5 radio from kenwood. Believe me after spending hours and hours and hours at your mazda dealership and gonna start to hate the car. no matter how much you love it now!

03Speed,
Was anything else wrong other then the radio?

Everyone do yourself a favor and drop the $300 on a Kenwood KDC-X569 if you have to have a kenwood.
