HELP!!: Need cat for my MP3...

Anybody have or know where I can get a new or used cat for my MP3. I recently purchased the car from CT, and they don't have emissions laws yet. The car has only the second cat on it, so i need the first one so my check engine light will go off, and i can pass inspection. the car also has the stage one begi turbo kit, will both cats on harm the turbo, or just performance? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks --Chris

no harrm to turbo... but try this first, get spark plug anti-foulers (18mm I think) and drill one out, leaving the otherone alone, install them together on your 2nd O2 sensor... it works

sweet!!! thanks man!, also, with that first cat off and these spark plug antifoulers on, how much will my gas mileage be compared to getting that first cat and putting it back on?

I think it'll be slightly better, but that would be impossible to test, of course if you lay into it you'll burn more fuel, but the cat is a huge restriction

also, with these non-foulers and no first cat, will i be able to pass the new NY state inspection where they hook you up to the computer and test emissions? or will they fail me?

if they "sniffer" test you then then you may be SOL unless you get a cat in your midpipe (or have the stock midpipe with the second cat) but even then you might still fail.

I'm in Luck!!!, i'm such an idiot. I didn't check the trunk, i called the previous owner and the cat is in a box in the trunk. So i guess i should just suffer a little gas mileage decrease and asure my inspection to pass huh?

absolutely... it will hinder a little power and spool up time more than it will fuel mileage.

but if they DO have a sniffer test then you should switch it a few days before going to inspection.

also, if you DO leave it off for the other 51 weeks of the year then I would still suggest you get the VERY cheap non-foulers and use that trick, cause you dont want a CEL, it keeps it in a very fuel inefficient closed loop mode.

2 more questions. How hard is it to put the first cat on and off if i can take it back off after the inspection?, and where are some places i can get after market parts for my mp3?, such as AWR motor mounts.

there are many many places to get protege parts. as for AWR motormounts they can be sourced from one of the many authorized vendors on this site, or from the manufacturers' themselves. at www.awrracing.com

as for changing the primary cat, it isn't too dificult on the stock exhaust manifld, but I dont really know with the BEGi kit

thanks man, i kno i'm a pain, but i'm a mp3 noobie and got lots of questions. I also got my mechanic to turn down the idle a little cause it was at 900rpm. a code came up for it so he turned it down to 800. He said that he unscrewed it as much as he could. U think that the code will come back up after clearing it with a 800rpm idle?
