help me pick an amplifier

ok guys time to get a new sub, i picked it its the polk/momo sub in the fiberglass enclosure.

it says recc. RMS power is 150-500W RMS so help me pick a good amp to mate to this sub.

i only want to get a mono amp to power the sub, and one that would not be overkill, just one that would work good with it.

also what should i wire? 8 or 4 ga?

first off, do you have the sub already? 'cause those momo's tend to be extra$ for a bit of pointless flash. Sorry I don't really have any amp reccomendations aside from make sure you leave some room to send some power to your front speakers as well.

As for wiring. most of it depends on if you ever want to change anyhting around. it's never toobad to have too big. I'd go for 4gague and a distribution block that'll output 8g soasto avoid connection issues since most sub-500w amps won't accept larger than 8g. and, as always, I'll make sure to pimp KunKonceptz.com Sweet deals.

Yeah we sell the momo you're talkin about at circuit city. It's a nice sub and it sounds good, but if you really want good sound for that price, just get some MTX/alpine/memphis andd a good box. You'll get more and better sound.
As far as an amp for that polk, you can't go wrong with a JL, MTX, or memphis.

300W RMS would be fine for that sub...but like you said...they recommedn right up to 500W. The JL 250/1 is a good option...especially is you don't have the rest of your soundsystem upgraded (ie Components and amps). I think 500W might be overkill and just drown everything else out. If you want to spend a bit less, look into JL's e-series (e1400D, coming out soon). There's other stuff out there, of course, I just really like JL because it'll give you the power you need at 4ohms. A lot of sub amps rate at 2ohms and list that RMS (like the Kicker KX400.1). Kicker makes a decent sub amp as well...hits hard, alright on the pricing. Look at alpine as well...though, in my experience, they don't seem to hit as hard...kinda the same deal with eclipse for sub amps. MTX and some of the older (last years) RF stuff, would probably be fine as well. It all depends on how much you'd like to spend.

Because you've got a sub with a 4ohm SVC, your best bet would be purchasing a 2ch amp and running it in bridged mode to the sub.

For value-priced amplifiers, I'd look into US Acoustics, JBL, or the Lanzar Opti-Drives. They all pack a great watt/$ ratio and are reliable, well-built, underrated amps.

For wiring, get a 4GA amplifier wiring kit from www.knukonceptz.com.

i already have the mp3 sub, which means i can reuse my rca and signal wires.

i just need to redo my power wire and ground wire, i ran 10ga and now im going to probably do 8ga if im only going to run a 300w RMS amp. im not going to upgrade.

Skip it...it's not particularly a POS, but spend a little more...I mean, you've got a decent sub you're getting (or have already), so pair it with at least a decent amp.

spend money! save it, wait and buy top of the line, something you can upgrade you speaker if need be later. I promise ive been through too many amps do your research and pic wisely.

i saw some MTX ones but i think they were a little small and again, cheap.

so pretty much any name brand that puts out 300w+ RMS should be good right?

JL is about the only amp that will be its best at 4 ohms other then a 2 channel amp that is bridged.

I'd get one with an adjustable crossover. If the sub was a 2 ohm load, you would have much better choices. In that case, I would go with the alpine MRP-M350 which gives you 350 watts rms for $199 retail

its an efx made by scosche and allt hier amp come with a certificate saying thier acutal power made. no crap hidden buy crazy numbers thier nice amps from a company thats been around awhiel thier jsut coming out.
