Headphones or other?

Hey fellow Chicagoans-

Thought you'd get a kick out of this one - last night we got about ten minutes of sleep (IF that even). Our neighbors (who we've met a couple times) were (butthump) (whip) pretty much the entire evening. They're newlyweds, so I guess that explains it. I was (lol) but my GF was (argh) . It would've been okay had it been any other evening, but she had an important day in court today (yes, she's also an attorney). Lack of sleep really messes her up, but she did well all things considered except for the occasional "doze off." I feel really bad for her. I'm trying to be pro-active here - would headphones be of help in situations such as these? Any other suggestions/ideas? This way we'll be prepared for all the nights to come. And here I thought New Yorkers were the loud ones.

headphones maybe. earplugs would probably be more comfortable. can you close windows or doors to help block out the sound?

And next time, just open the window and shout "I OBJECT!"

Just tire her out in with some (butthump) at the same time or earlyer than the nehbors, then should the newlyweds start up she should sleep right though it

boss makes some noise cancelling headphones that will drown out stuff like that. but if all else fails then go ask if you can make it a real party.

those bose headphones are awesome, but they are also like $150 (braindead

move your bed or find a way to insulate the wall a little more.... sorta like ken said. Only maybe more like the sound deadening pads they use in lecture rooms or recording studios. They still have a decent look and should reduce the noise.

i was joking, ya kno' :)

that said, the solution is relatively simple in my mind - call the police. my fiance and i have a lousy neighbor who blasts bass thumping club music into the wee hours of the morning. its loud enough to where things in my office will fall off the shelves, etc. i've called the police three times on him and the last officer who came by gave him a ticket and possible eviction warning. he has since toned down his music and the apartment complex has put copies of his tickets and my complaints in his file.

yes, it is an asshole/tattle tale thing to do but its a "me or them" mindset for me when it comes to me getting sleep.

leaning towards the tattle-tale but I would probably do the same to. i heard your neighbors music Ken, uggh; help.

why not just make it real awkward?

casually walk to their door. introduce yourselves, and act very normal. when they ask what you need, tell the man the constant noise from drilling his wife late at night is not allowing you to sleep. use as much inuendo as possible.

if that doesnt work, tell them you enjoy listening to them "making sex", and to keep it up.

they should be thoroughly creeped out either way, and quiet down.

tattle-tale

**** that everyone has a right to sleep without interruptions. Ken, you did the right thing and probably held out longer than I would have given the circumstances. Nicole's old apartment at school was the same way - the neighbors had parties and blaring music past 4 or 5 am on finals week. (chair)

you should of just started (butthump) doin the same with your girl instead of listening to them all night

I'm paying an arm 'n' a leg for this place; you'd think the insulation would be better. It probably is good, but they're just too loud. As for getting the police involved, I'd rather not. I prefer to keep the peace with our neighbors. I think I'll just go over there (when they're not...uh...busy) and speak to them in person. If this doesn't work and I exhaust all other options, then I MIGHT consider involving the cops. I can sleep through anything really - it's my girl I'm worried about. She puts in very long days and needs all the rest she can get.
