Has anyone gotten leather in their P5??

I asked the sales person to find a P5 with leather and he told me they weren't availiable, but the Mazda website says that it is a option for $490.

Does anyone have leather??

mines coming in at the end of may, so they are availible....it was a new option that was just recently added....

by the time it takes leather to crack up over time you car will be 30 years old and the cloth seats you got instead of leather will be just yellow faded stuffing.

leather actually doesn't last that long, my friends' 89 mazda 929's leather is cracking here and there, oh, im anti-leather too, hard to clean, burn your ass in summer, and freeze your balls in winter, but it sure smells nice though

Yes it does crack over time if you don't condition the leather, and yes you freeze you balls off in the winter.

My main argument is that it is easier to get in and out of and it looks better in my opnion.

Katz Skins sell a leather set for the Pro's.
They are covers so you can remove the during the cold days and put them back on when it heats up.

Katzkin seats are not removeable covers - they are replacement upholstery. Unless you are looking at something different, but I don't think so.

They offer an installation tutorial on that site, don't they? Check that out and see. You have to remove the cloth to install the leather.

Leather seats (and with seat heaters, if I can get the bucks) should be my next (and probably only BIG) upgrade. I can't wait. Probably after my wedding in September, at the latest.

Any of you all want to come to the wedding? Cash gifts are preferred; I take PayPal. ;);):):)

I have a white P5 with black leather. The dealer offered it as an option. They sent my car to some shop they had a deal with and they built it into the monthly payment. But I payed a hell of alot more than $490. Try more like $1200. They're black with a little white mazda symbol on them. I almost got white, but 6 months after I bought the car they would look dirty as hell.

A guy that worked there had a yellow P5 with yellow leather. Just too much damn yellow if you ask me.

My dealer wants $1200 also - the kit is only about $700 from Katzkin - I'm not sure, but I think that there is a factory leather option now - part of the mid-year changes, like the sport auto, tweeters, side markers, and new rims. If your P5 was made before February 28, 2002, the leather is an aftermarket kit, most likely by Katzkin, and you paid well over cost.

The $1200 is ridiculous dealer markup. Installation is supposed to be easy (according to Katzkin, it's a definite DIY) so the cost for that is minimal - maybe $100?

Anyway - leather is nice. But the dealers are making tons of money on it for $1200. Especially with the new factory option being only about $500.

I actually saw a P5 this weekend at the Carlisle show. It was yellow and had black and yellow leather. It was called the xtreme edition. It had badges embroidered into the seats and a badge where the MP3 badges on the door are. Looked like good leather and smelled nice. I have a pic and once I figure out how to post it I will.

I've had leather in 4 of my cars. Loved it! Have it in the truck now. Wish it was in my MP3.
I agree about it lasting longer than cloth. If you take care of it, it lasts a long time. I had both a 77 BMW and an 88 BMW, both with factory leather and no issues ever. Take care of it and it's great. I would condition it about every 6 months, which is probably less than recommended.
In our truck we condition it about twice a year still. Just keep it in shape and don't puncture it and you'll be fine.

I called a shop by my house who is a Katzkin dealer and they told me to do the whole interior would cost about $1100. This includes black / red leather (my color sheme im going for on my silver P5) on front and rear seats and the door panels (red leather).

Also, the Protege5 logo can be embroidered in the headrest or the high part of the front seat (around where my back would be).

The price is kinda of high but i think it comes with warrenty and will look nice. I cant wait to get it when i have to cash.

I got some info from Mazda:
Our seats upholstry can be completely removed just like the Katskins Upholstry. Thats What I meant by removable.

You can actually remove the stock upholstry and leave the seat in the foam interior state.
This is the way you install the Katzkin

Katzkin Leather

I am in the process of doing this myself.
I'm about to order a Karzkin leather kit for my Protege5, want your opinions. My car is black, and i am oging with a 2-tone interior, solid black outside with perferated inserts, but here's my problem, what insert color? please look at the following photshopped examples i created & let me know wich you think would go better with a black car? any of these below, or just plain black? (also i'm prob going to do either no logo, or simply the Mazda symbol embroyered in black)
Black with light gray inserts,

Black with Tan inserts,

Black with dark gray insets,

I'm personally leaning towards the dark gray inserts, but would love to hear your thoughts,
cheers

I can't remember who's car this is, but this is the leather I like the most for a yellow P5. The black is easier to keep looking clean that the lighter shades, especially on the middle panels.
