Had my first race last night

It started when I was at a light coming back from my friend Amy's house. No she is not my girlfriend but I sure wish she was. Yeah typically nice looking blonde girl. Well when I was at the light this late 80 early 90's Mazda MX-6 pulls up next to me and I am not paying attention at all but the turning light turns GREEN and I inched forward well I guess this MX-6 thought I wanted to race or something cause when our light went GREEN you could see him shifting gears quickly and shot out in front of me only cause I had no clue he wanted to race me so when we got to the next light I looked over and he said Lets Race buddy.

At this time I am thinking ok I only have 130 hp car and of course I have an automatic P5. He is 5 speed so he is gonna beat me off the line and probably should beat me in the race to. Well at this time I am thinking if I wanna have any chance in beating I would hold the brake and get my RPM's up to 2000 so I could shot off the line. Well when the light turned GREEN and jumped off that line and I was like man I got em off the line and I noticed I was pulling away. By the time we got to the next light which at the time was red I was a full lengths car ahead of him. Lets just say I noticed he wsnt to happy about losing to me at all. I know it isnt the best of races but I had to post it. Looks like I am 1-0 right now

How in the heck(scratch) did you get to ^%7. Mannn i own a 1991 MX-6 Turbo 5-speed and that thing eats my bro's SpecV for breakfast and i know it'll eat my MP3 for dinner any day, But you probably raced a late 80's MX-6 5-speed (POS) that was needed of some juice or candy" naw j/k good win though man(scratch)

Like I said I think it was either late 80's or early 90's. I dont know a ton about MX-6's so I was just taking a wild guess on it. I can say it looked kinda old and beat up though so it was more then likely an 80's one. I can say it wasn't turbo cause if it was I wouldnt have one I am sure

hmm.. im thinkin we need to compile a list of cars beaten by P5's....

my first race was on the way home after getting the car detailed at the dealer. I beat a riced civic. The guy didnt look to happy that he got beat by a stock "stationwagon"....

Like I said I think it was either late 80's or early 90's. I dont know a ton about MX-6's so I was just taking a wild guess on it.

It was probably one of the non-GT versions which came with a 2.2L 4 cyl with 3 valves per cylinder. If I remember right, it makes 110HP. It probably weighs a little more than the 5 wagon too.

But hey, a kill is a kill and it's always sweet when you're the one that got challenged.

BTW, if you're wondering what the heck a Mustang guy is doing in here, I'm considering a 5 wagon as a replacement for my aging MX6 and just wanted to check out what the real Protege owners say about the car and see what kind of aftermarket parts are available.

Welcome to the board Matt!

Hell, don't worry about being a Mustang guy... Most everyone here is a car enthusiast in one form or another. There's lots of good info. around about both good and bad things about the P5. If you ever get a chance, go and test drive one.. The handling is phenomenal. At any rate, good luck browsing around, and post if you have any specific questions.
