GTech Competition Pro results hot off the presses

I have a G-tech too. I had it in my mustang first and the quarter mile times are within 1 or 2 tenths accurate(dragstrip proven). However the horsepower and torque are off. I never weighed the mustang on a scale but the weight was near accurate. I weighed the mazda with me in it so we'll see when I get on a dyno. I mounted mine against the a-pillar facing me. I will try to post pics later.

It should be quite close if you get the weight right, remember that it will be lower than what you get on a chassis dyno because of aerodynamic drag. That's why I said I thought the numbers I got might be a tad high.

At any rate, the acceleration numbers should be most accurate as they are not vulnerable to user error.

G-techs are great. I've owned two (the original, and the pro model...both are older than the current Comp Pro). Now I have a Beltronics Vector FX2...which has slighly less features than the Comp Pro, but costs a good deal less ($175).

It matched my times at the track by +/- 0.1 second.

I just got a gtech pro a month ago off of eBay new for $35. That thing is a lot of fun. We took it out in my buddy's E36 M3 and after a few trials ran a 13.8 and a 13.9 (slightly uphill). The Gtech Pro Comp is around $150 on eBay... I imagine it could only be better than the regular Pro, which is quite fun...

I just got a gtech off ebay new for $48 (the price straight from gtech now) I got 6.83 on the first/only 0-60 and 15.94 @94mph 1/4mile so I think I was on too much of an incline for it to correctly guess how long a quarter mile was

btw: i just used the velcro and mounted it to the dash, already got an escort passport 8500 on the windshield

Yeah...an inclined road really throws off the results.

As I said in my post, there was no room to safely run a quarter.

i know how you feel =) i have an hks type 1 and havent found a spot where i can safely run a quarter mile and time it.

Me2

I just got one after reading this post - I got the GTech Pro for $49.00 on eBay. At that price everybody with a birth certificate should be required to have on. Does anybody have an accurate weight for a stock 2003.5? Somebody above said they had their car weighed but didn't say what it was.

I've got to stop looking at this site - it's costing me a fortune!

My car with myself (150 lbs), about 50 lbs of junk in the trunk, and a little less than 1/4 tank of gas weighed 3005 pounds.

The older, cheaper one has less of the cool functions and is supposedly a little less accurate, but I think its about as good as the Bel and other competing models. The new one is super cool- it really is a goldmine of info.

The older one (which I used to have) isn't as accurate as the Beltronics or Escort models...the Bel was within +/- 0.1 second of the track timer on all of my runs.

With the original, the Bel or the Escort, you lose a lot of the cool functions (the tach, shift lights, all the graphs- hp and torque curves viewable on the unit.....on and on) of the Competition Pro. It really is neat.

Yeah...the Comp Pro is an awesome tool, but it's expensive :) The Beltronics model does everything I want: 0-30,40,50,60,70,etc time, 60ft/330ft/1000ft times, 1/8 & 1/4 mile and speeds, peak HP & torque, average HP & TQ, autoleveling, and saves 10 runs in memory.

The Comp Pro has a bunch of other features....like shift light, dyno graph, digital tach....

If you have the money, definitely go for the Comp Pro, but any of the accererometers are cool toys.
