Greetings from another new Speed3 owner

Just dropping by to say hi and introduce myself. I just picked up a new 2008.5 True Red Speed3 GT last Wednesday and love everything about the car.

I started looking for a car last fall and it's taken me this long to find something I really like. I've been beyond picky and have also been so disappointed with the used car market that I decided to pull the trigger and get myself a brand spanking new car instead.

I'm upgrading from a 1998 ZX2, and I don't believe how difficult it has been to find something that's not a downgrade from my old ZX2 while being both fun and efficient/practical. The ZX2 had some modifications done over the years, and if anyone knows what the S/R versions of that car were, it was pretty much like that plus a couple other minor changes. Being 10 years old and higher mileage it was time to let her go before she became a money pit.

My goals:
- something semi-sporty / fun to drive yet practical as a daily driver
- more room than a 2 door coupe
- decent mileage (I was getting 30 city & 35 highway with the old Z and it's ridiculous that more new cars don't meet or exceed that except for some economy POS mobiles)
- 4 wheel disc (I'm never working on drum brakes again!)
- nice interior (I don't know how new car manufacturers manage to build crappier and crappier interiors from one year to the next)

My choices:
- Mazdaspeed3
- WRX (I like the new hatch, but new they are outside my price range)
- GTI MKV (DSG is a dumb toy, didn't like it at all, but the manual is nice)
- Cobalt SS / Redline (thought about it for a minute but remembered I wanted something with more room to haul crap)
- SVT Focus (I like them alot, but they are hard to find and are now a few years old with a few miles on them if you do find a nice one. Ford is stupid for discontinuing them.)
- I forget what else, cause I'm too happy with the Mazda to care anymore.

Obviously I ended up with a Speed3, and that's how I found my way here.

As she sits in stock form I can't think of 1 single thing that I would change, and that makes me so very happy.

Yes I'd like to mod the car, who doesn't? But for now I just want it to stay reliable and warrantied so I can just drive it. I'm sure the bug will bite soon and I'll get the itch to mod something, and I'm hoping the community here will be as helpful and informative as other enthusiast sites I've been a part of.

Again, greetings to all from another happy Speed3 owner!

nice choice. go online and read the auto mags. comparison tests, and you will feel it was a GREAT choice!!

yea, its nice to see whenever they pick the MS3 in a comparison in an auto mag, but most of them seem to be pretty biased, so i take it all with a grain of salt. especially car and driver... they will go thru all the tests, and it seems obvious that a certain car is a winner in a track test, then they will make up some chart and award points and somehow the slowest car will win because its quiet or has more trunk space. (shrug)

anyway, i think you made a good choice. havent heard many people not happy about their speed3 purchases. welcome, and enjoy the new ride.

Yes I do! LOL!

Cool though. Nice choice and welcome! Maybe I'll see ya on the road sometime. Where did you get it from, Hall or Russ Darrow? Make sure you get some different tires before winter. I got mine in January of 2007 and suffered for it. I was unaware of the summer performance tires as I was use to all seasons on every car I've had till that point.

Hey, another Milwaukee member!

I found the car at Concours but bought it from Russ Darrow. I had them do a dealer trade because I liked the people at Russ Darrow better. (The people at Concours seemed like a bunch of pricks, and I just had that feeling that I didn't want to deal with them.)

I'm hoping they'll be alright to deal with, and I'm hoping to not have to deal with them at all if everything works well for the next few years of driving.

I was assuming that the tires will be a problem come winter, and am planning on getting a set of steelies with Blizzaks for the winter. How was driving in the snow last winter?

Swapped out the summer tires for all season Pirelli P-Zero's on the stock rims in December last year. Thank God due to all the snow we had. The all seasons worked great, still do even in summer. January through March of 2007 was another story. Had to drive like I was on ice all the time, unless the roads were bone dry.

Congrats on the new car. Sounds like you're very happy with your purchase. I like your comments about just enjoying the nice car that it is stock for a while...a lot of people forget to do this...I hope I can do it with my next car, whether it be an MS3 or whatever. Good luck with everything!

It's a great car stock. Mine's still stock, only thing I might do is a cold air intake to unleash those other 20 or 30 horses!

Welcome to the forum...Hey a rear motor mount and a intake is a must on this car so you may think about just getting those 2 mods.A intake is very easy to change out for dealer visits.

Poking around the forum has given me some great info so far.

Motor mounts sound like the thing to do if you want the engine to stay where it belongs. And I'm surprised at the results from dropping an intake on these cars, I'm definitely going to consider that sooner than later.

I've also discovered I'm another owner with the Bose stereo problem, and will have to give the dealer a call to take care of that.

Waiting till I get a few payments under my belt to determine if extra toys will be affordable.
