Hi guys...

well, i washed my car the other day, and i noticed i had some paint off near my back door on the driver side.....

I would like to get some advice and more opinions on how to apply touch paint.

Is there good way to do it? ....and things to avoid?

Depending how large the area is, I would get a small bottle of touchup paint from your local Mazda dealer or from www.mazdastuff.com

Next, you want to clean the area really well and remove the wax in the area with either a wax removing product or some dish soap.

The most important thing is not to put it on too thick. The brush that is built into the bottle is usually too big for most applications. What I use is either a toothpick or the end of a match. This will get the paint in the spot more precisely and will allow you to put it on more evenly.

These are just my opinions, but i'm sure other people may have some ideas too.

I agree with mazdadan, but don't attempt to fill the chip all at once. Someone on this forum, earlier stated that the best way is the fill it in in layers. Do one layer, and let it dry, then do another, and so forth. I hope it helps! I have some chips in my paint too that I need to tend to.

I've been washing and detailing my cars over 20 years, and never could get touchup paint on chips to look right.....until I read about this stuff and gave it a try:

This stuff works in conjunction with OEM touchup paint and does a great job.

.....disclaimer: Don't work for them, just a customer

One trick i've used and had decent succes at is using some lintless q-tips. Just use a small container for a little paint dip the q-tip in and fill the chip/scratch in layers...usually comes out looking good.

dumb question...

What is that white layer that you can see when you scratch the paint, but don't make a gouge on the body?
