gear grind?

Well I took my car to the dyno the other day and did 3 third gear pulls.
On the way home I decided I wanted to "get on it" from a dig. I did so and it did not want to go into 3rd during wot, the gears screamed at me. It scared the s#@% out of me because the car is only a year old with 11k on it. As soon as I realized what was going I let off the throttle and coasted to a stop.

I then pressed the clutch in and went through the gears to make sure that
3rd gear was there. Everthing felt ok so I drove the car home and it seems to be ok. My question is do I have anything to worry about after such a nasty gear grind?

Missed 2-3 shift under WOT is a serious but very common problem due to the linkage design of the shifter and the rather extreme movement of the transaxle under load, as it changes position on the engine/tranny mounts due the the high torque of this engine. It really rocks in the worst sense of the word.

Some find benefit by changing to stiffer rear mount or with an engine dampener. Lots of threads on this can be found with the search function. There is a trade off between more solid shifts from harder, stiffer mounts v. increased vibration being transmitted into the cockpit.

IMHO: While not to be desired, this is what I would consider "normal" for the car. You'll get lots of different opinons on the best fix, all of which are a compromise of competing values, depending on what is important to the individual vehicle owner.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'm just paranoid because I'm the only owner of this car and this is the first time ANYTHING like this has happened to it. When I did it I felt as if I had just stepped on a new born baby.

It was nasty. I could feel the vibrations thru the shifter and I could hear the wine of the gears over the bose.

The funny thing is I have all of the mm replaced with aftermarket mounts.
I think my next mod is going to be a sts. What is a good choice?
