Fuel gauge

It happened to me twice. When fuel light is on and if I add only around 2-2.5gallons of gas (when price of gas suddenly shoots way up) the light is still on and arrow doesn't move at all. Is it normal for Mazda5 or something wrong with the sensor?

Yes sounds normal, you are only adding about 1/8th of the capacity of the tank. It would be very hard to distinguish that small of an amount on the fuel gauge.

Here's my fuel gauge question...Why is it my gas light comes on when I'm just barely below the last quarter tank hash mark???

My Protege is very accurate in this respect. Well, it's not a big deal.

Would you rather it come on when you have 2 gal. or 4 gal.? I would rather get the early warning than walk. Besides, it costs the same amount to keep your tank at 1/2 full.

I would venture to guess Mazda has finally addressed an issue since EFI was introduced. Many common folk don't know that the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank, so ideally to you don't want to run less than 1/4 tank if you can readily help it. Fuel pump replacements aren't generally cheap. So now we have an added reminder that we should minimize stress on the fuel pump.
