anyone know of a good fishing spot?? looking for shoreline spots..i noticed protoge06 mentioning fishing but i didn't want to go completely off the topic in that thread.

we have tried hawaii kai boat ramp by the bridge with the canoes at night....the beach behind prince kuhio hotel with the "L" shaped rock wall...he'eia kiea pier around 8at night, and 4in the morning....
so far going at 4 in the morning is the most sucessful we got, and even then, we didn't catch anything...there were a lot of papio though...

we're still learning and jsut started getting into it within the last week or so...anyone got any tips??

Keep trying different techniques and areas.

What kine fishing do you think you'd enjoy? It seems like you like to fish where you don't have to walk too far away from the car.

I don't care for Hawaii Kai boat ramp, Waikiki, nor He'eia. Papio like action...but you can catch them dunking too. You can try Makai Pier. They open late on Friday nights or during the weekdays (I think), they open during the day hours.

Nuuanu will be opening soon for Catfishing. If you are able to, Koke'e just opened up on Kauai for trout fishing today. You need 4-wheel drive to get down there or walk down the trail...unless you lucky and the trail isn't wet, you can actually go down in a regular rental. Both places need a $5 license. You can get it at Walfart, Sports Authority, or DLNR...and a few other fishing stores.

Too bad no more Super Ferry...we can go Maui, charter a boat so we can catch Nabeta! MMmmmMMmmm!!!

Good luck Nat! Keep trying. Once you get the hang of it, it'll all be good.

we actually tried heeia pier again today...had plenty papio....i think we're using the wrong bait...luckily the guys that go there are really nice...they were showing us some tips on how to set up the pole and stuff...my bf caught this one fish..looks like a stick fish but with a lot of sharp teeth...cant remember what it was called...started with an 's'...

where is makai pier??

Grats on the catch. I think you're talking about a Kaku (Barracuda)? They look sorta like stick fish. It's all silver. They give good fight.

Makai Pier is just outside of Sea Life Park. Caught a large Nenue out there with a hand pole and bread. LOL That was pretty crazy. Damn thing shet green, stink turds all over the freaking place.

Papio usually like action (whipping). You can also catch them dunking with Ika. It's neat watching the Papio chase the Sardine schools around at Makai Pier. Summer time is here. Fishing action bebe!

no it wasn't a barracuda...it was something else...next time i go to the pier im gonna go ask the guy that was there what it was lol...

is nenue a good fish to eat??

caught one 10 pound oio today ...two 4 lb papios a weke n...dats it...i always at by the airport dunno how for spell the name but every1 shud kno what its called.....

Grats dude! Sweet! Fishcake! Good fight too. Er...dunno if it's safe to eat from that area. LOL Oh well.

Nenue...uh...it has a very distinct taste. Most people don't like it but it makes hella good Ulua bait! Some people eat em poke style. Bleak!

Lemme know what that fish was that you guys caught. Maybe you can find the picture here: http://www.marinelifephotography.com/fishes/fishes.htm
Wonder if it's Cornet or Trumpet fish. Hrm.

Always get big sewage spills there or something. At least you had fun. Is the place you talking about by the Airport Keehi Lagoon?

Nat, dunno if my co-worker was pulling my leg, but is the fish called Aha or Bluebone fish? There's also Needlefish http://www.marinelifephotography.com/fishes/needlefishes/needlefishes.htm Sorry, it's something I've never caught.

Keep trying Nat. I'm not very good, but I keep trying. I usually come up with something eventhough they're junk fish. On occassion, I come up with nothing at all. Each and every time is different, which is what makes it exciting. What you may want to do is invest in those colorful Hawaiian fish books, that way, you can come home and learn what you caught. I bought some of those books from Costco. Bring a junk camera with you so you can take a picture of the fish to compare them with the book illustrations. It really helps.

Good luck!

there we keehi lagoon lol i like try kakaako tomorrow or maybe marisco in campbell industrial idk plenty places to go mayb i hit up waianae side havent been there for awhile

awww crap!!! i remembered what the fish my bf caught was called...then i logged on to the forum and POOF!!!! i forgot!!! dammit!!

CRS sydrome is kickin in pretty bad... CRS = cant remember s***

Caught a 2 lbs Christmas Hinalea w/ rather large lbs test hanging out of its doodoo hole on Sunday. That was interesting. I think it was trying to poop out a hook...OWIE!

no it wasn't a barracuda...it was something else...next time i go to the pier im gonna go ask the guy that was there what it was lol...

is nenue a good fish to eat??

I REMEMBERED!!! its called a sayote (sp??)...pronounced like cayote but with an "S"

We've been actually doing not too bad...last night we went to sand island, and my bf caught a nice size papio...and sunday i caught 2 papio at the pier...its weird because they dont normally swim right along the wall by he'eia pier...but i left my pole dangling there and *BAM*...my pole almost went bye bye lol

any suggestions for bait?? we've been using blood meat, aku belly, tako, shrimp, and we're trying salmon belly since we cant find aku....the aku belly is what got the papio i caught...

Gratz Nat!

Aku belly is some good stuff. Just caught one yesterday morning outside of Port Allen. Was gut! Actually, lost one. Second one, a 200 lbs shark got it. Finally brought in the third one. I think the Aku piles are small so far this year. Might be hard to find any in the market this year. I think it's the same for the Ahi piles too. Actually, the Ahi been coming up burnt. (No can eat em raw) On Thursday, a family friend caught a 300 pound Ahi. Unfortunately, it was burnt. Decent amount Marlin and Ono coming up this year. Haven't seen too much Mahi come up yet. Still early, so anything can happen. Get plenty Trout up Koke'e. LOL Caught bag limit of ten in an hour. Caught several baby Papio on Wednesday out Nawiliwili. Brought one legal one in. One fell off my hook because I got a little too excited and pulled it out of the water before we could net it. The other wrapped my line around the launch pad and cut the line. Mullet were not hungry. Tilapias were hungry! LOL!

Shrimp & Aku good for Oama. They starting to run. Papio will also bite Ika. Can also catch them whipping. Can catch em w/ grubs, strips, even poppers or plugs.

P.S. Never leave your pole dangling. LOL It's gonna go babai if something hits it. LOL Glad you were able to pull your catch in and not lose the pole.

Keep it up! You guys are awesome!

haha went kakaako the other day was pretty fun for jus mess around kine caught some pretty big wekes 2 papios and 5 humus lol

Uh, I don't think the Aku boats run anymore. That's a part of history now. LOL

I not sure, but I think the Aku season not going be too good. I was pricing around, Aku stay selling for freakin $26 a pound and it tasted terrible! That's more than Ahi prices right now. DOH!!!!

Nice catches at Kakaako dude. Keep it up guys.

GUNFUNIT! This Saturday, exact same spot and time I caught the shark, my uncle caught a 120 pound Ahi and I think it was good (not burnt). He brought up two more smaller ones, an Ono, and something else. LOL Then my co-worker just gave me a huge ars slab of Ahi her husband and bro-in-law caught this weekend in the Ahi Tournament. Dang thing was gut! MmMmMmm! Hopefully this means the Ahi season will be a lot better than anticipated. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Good fishing guys and goils!
