Just want some feedback whether there would be a difference at all or what you would prefer....looking to replace stock speakers in mazda 3....with 6.5 components alpine. I noticed infinity had 5x7 components....big difference...any recommendations thanks.

Components will be better, but, they sound better when driven by an amp.

5x7's are a good upgrade if you also upgraded the headunit

But, for best sound, components are the way to go

If I were you, I would let the brand of speaker you want dictate what you get, rather than the size. For instance, if you really want Infinity speakers and they come in both a 5x7 or 6.5 inch size, you probably would not be able to tell the difference, it will just be easier to install the oval (stock) size. BUT, if say you want Alpine (or some other high end brand) that only comes in a 6.5 inch (or other round size), I would just get those and either buy or make an adapter plate. A better speaker will always sound better, whether it is oval or round.
So in summary, I would go first with what kind of sound (speaker) you like, then look at what sizes are available and get the closest to what you need. Components are great, again regardless of what size the woofer is. Are you using a sub or amp(s)?

I think the op is asking about oval components vs round components. I did not see any mention of coaxials in his post, but I could be wrong. I agree though. Components may not cut it with a stock system.

thanks....I will be running an amp 4 channel to these speakers front and back....looking into the alpine type r's 6.5 components...alpine pdx amp and alpines double din 7" navi system..dvd etc. Subs are still in the air of what kind and size...thinking 10's...as well as alpines pdx amp...
