External Wastegate noise

how loud would an external wastegate be if i leave it open? i'd run a pipe from the wastegate to under the car but leave it as is, not welded into my existing exhaust

im looking at this to fix my boost problems and wana keep the install as simple as possible

They are pretty loud, my cousin has a short dump pipe off his on his RSX.

the wastegate only opens to let pressure out once it reached it's set point? lets say 10psi? it would stay closed (and quiet) under the psi its set at?

Ya, but your turbo might spool up to like 20 psi at 5000RPM, and so half of it is being let out so that your egine only gets 10. The wastegate will open right when your car develops whatever boost you have it set at. For example, if your boost gauge is pegged on 10psi right from 4000, your wastegate will open at 4000 rpm.

yeah thats fine. i mean, it won't see 10psi until i give lets say 20% throttle so i know i can drive around and that the wastegate wont make any noise until i really step on it

Yeah you can keep it quiet. I haven't heard many, but the one on my cousin's RSX is LOUD. Pretty much imagine a mildly toned down exhaust with no piping lol.

k great thats what i wanted to know. i dont care how loud my car is when i'm racing. i just want to have stable boost which i dont have right now possibly due to wastegate/actuator problems

haha yeah i wana get an eclipse soon ...maybe next year

i won a brand new actuator on ebay so i'll try this 1st and if it doesnt work i'll go with external wastegate because right now, without a boost controller or anything, i can hit 20+psi ... so either the wastegate is stuck or the actuator doesnt work =\

i removed one of the clamps on my intercooler pipe to create a boost leak so now i have very nice stable boost at @10psi but its not enough lol

Ya man, now you know why most "upper level" turbo setups go with external wastegates...
