try cleaning the egr valve.

hmm it does it when you fill with gas. Is there a CEL (specifically a flashing one)? Also, other than the idling is it ok? What about power when you are driving? I had idling problems when my SRI got soaked at the auto car wash (my hood doesn't have any weatherstripping at all), but it was with a flashing cel and was barely able to drive at all. Switched to my CAI and it was fine.

But if it is just the idle, try the EGR valve fix. How many miles on the car? I cleaned my EGR at 58k miles and it didn't even need it, but I've heard people needing it at 30k.

You might want to check for leaks on your intake manifold gasket or throttle gasket and check all your vacum hose's for cracks. I have attached a link on how to I hope this helps.

ps: I had bad idle on my 03 ES and some days it would't start, after long hours of changing spark plugs, coils , O2 sensors it came to be a leak on the intake manifold gasket after I installed a new one the car ran like a champ. I found out it was an intake leak by doing a leak test with some starting spray around the intake gasket. the gasket was $20 at the dealership and I also replace a throttle body gasket which it was $7.

hope this helps-----here is the links

already cleaned the egr valve...about the time of the recall...wonder if that could CAUSE the problem...hrm...maybe i need to do it again?

also... its not a flashing cel..no cel at all...its mainly after i fill up...like right after...its fine after i drive for about 10 min.

solid snake...ill take a look at that stuff...THANKS

Definitely clean the EGR again. I had to. That's how I knew I didn't need it, because my idle got really rough after I had cleaned it. I don't remember what I used to clean it, must not have been the right thing. Also, I think I lost the gasket the first time I put it on, because I didn't realize there was a gasket until the second time when I heard a little ding and looked on the concrete and there it was under the car. (sorry for the run-on sentence I'm in class haha)

I probably used intake manifold cleaner, strong stuff. Also the first time I did it I couldn't get the 4 screws out (the small ones, to separate the parts of the EGR valve) so my cleaning job wasn't too thorough. I didn't lube it up with anything after I did it. I think the problem might have been that I was missing the metal gasket or just hadn't tightened it down enough the first time.

and what would you suggest to lube it with?

I dunno I didn't lube it. I've heard people say it wasn't needed, and I've heard that if you use white lithium grease (the only grease I have laying around) it'll just burn up and dry, which could cause more problems.

Should be, worked for me. Make sure you have the gasket in right and get it all properly tightened down and you should be all set.

might try a drop or two of 3in1 oil on the spring next time you open it up to clean it. if you didnt lube it the 1st time, it could just be stickking open/shut.

:'( my car is doing this right now and I can't get to work. well mine is doing it with the flashing CEL again. I'm going to pull my plugs and probably change my spark plug wires and such.

*ugh* I just want to get to work.

i had a flashing cell once and misfiring, after i cleaned out my greasy engine bay(powersteering pumpwas leaking all kinds..) anyways pulled the plugs they were soaked, thank you nology!never realiased how well they dont seal... put my stock wires back on replaced the plugs(i was due anyway) and i was good to go, imo cleaning the egr valve doesnt do anything i had cleaned mine and yea there was quite a bit of carbon buildup but afterwards there was no change

yeah my plugs were dripping when I pulled them out. I just hope it was water surrounding where they were mounting that dripped, not water in the combustion chamber. Yeah and mine were only wet where I had sparkco wires, where the stock coil packs were everything was a-ok.

No parts stores carry wires for our cars in stock !! (ARGH).

I'm going to call the local dealership and if they don't have them in stock order them with rush shipping from a vendor here. I can ride my bike to work (it'll just take 90+ minutes each way) but there's a car show I was supposed to go to after work today :( :(

The recall.....was it the one for the intake manifold? I think it is safe to say that it is directly related to the intake manifold fix. Also, the spark plug replacement will definently help. I replaced mine recently and it's all good now! Good luck!
