Engine temperature warning while driving (CX-60 3.3L Diesel)

Hi Everyone,

Maybe someone has had a similar experience and has some knowledge about this: I was driving my CX-60 3.3l Diesel when i got this warning as shown below:

Excessive Engine Temperature Engine Output Restricted Temporarily.

The sequence of events were as follows:
- been driving for over 2 hours and everything was fine.
- I stopped for a toilet break and then when i continued the trip, within maybe 5 mins i got the above error.
- I slowed down and it went away as the car seemed to cool, then it came back when i accelerated up a hill.
The Coolant gauge was responding very fast, like if i reduced speed then the temp dropped and when i pushed the car it was increasing quite quickly. Aircon on then off didn't make any difference.
I then got an additional warning which said something like high coolant temperature so i stopped the car and turned it off.
I turned the car on and it was still showing it was hot. The fan radiator operated and i saw the the temp come down pretty fast while idling.
Got back in the car and the car drove perfectly for another 250km - no issues at all.
I tried to push the car and accelerate aggressively up a hill etc - the car was perfect, the coolant gauge didn't even flinch.

I not a 100% sure but it seemed like it was revving higher than it should be while it was overheating. I thought maybe i had bumped the gear flap and put it in manual but it was in D.
Car is 3 months old- less than 5000Kms.
I was not towing anything.
Outside temp was 23 degrees C.

If you have any ideas?
Could this be a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) cycle? But i never thought that could trigger a warning...
Best Regards
Philip
