Engine noise "ticking" at idle

I found all your comments helpful. I also will have to get used to the "Ticking Sound" on my 2010 CX-9.
I was used to my old Toyota Sienna Van which was always quiet.
Is the CX-9 motor found in Ford vehicles?

Yeah, it's actually a Ford engine. Ford used to own the majority of Mazda, that is why they shared many things, especially engines. Now (that Ford and Mazda are "seperating"), Mazda is building their own line of new engines.

I went to the dealership and shared my concerns about the ticking noise they checked my mazda cx7 and said it could be the vvt actuator which they fixed for free cause its under warrenty then they told me to run sea foam for 10 thousand miles to clean out the valvas that seemed to be full of sludge which is suprising to me but i did it than after 10 thousand milesgot my oil changed to flush out the sea foam the ticking sound isnt as loud but still there and i hate that ticking sound it drives me nuts.

When I was a kid, my folks bought a brand new 1989 MPV and it had the same ticking when it was cold. They also bought a 95 or 96 model MPV and it did the same thing when cold / idle. My 08 CX-9 does the same thing. I have no concerns, its just how the engine operates, it is not a problem, its just something that some people get annoyed by, because it doesn't sound buttery smooth. Normal though.

i've started noticing my 2011 ticking, particularly when i'm in a parking garage or drive-thru. it doesnt make the sound at idle, but when i give it a bit of gas i can hear it. doesn't really sound like injector tick to me...but i hope it is. and it actually seems to not do it when cold, moreso when warm. ill be bringing it up at the first oil change for sure.
